gilakai Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Hey guys, I recently started doing a series of flower pots using lego, depicting classic movie scenes. For the flower pot of Lord of the Rings, I chose the scene of the hobbits hiding from the nazgul. Check it out below and let me know your thoughts! I am also trying to garner support for the set on Lego Ideas, and if you like what you see below, please help support it here: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/60805 Frodo and Sam are terrified and hiding behind the roots The black rider's vantage point. A closer look on the soil containment holes at the bottom to allow water to flow through Let me know if you have any thoughts about how I could improve the set, and thank you for your support! Quote
krono111 Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Wow great idea! I like it. Doesn't the water hurt the lego bricks? Quote
legoman19892 Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Have you had issues with dirt going through the cracks yet? Quote
gilakai Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 Long term I think it would fade the color perhaps? I haven't had it for long enough to tell. Dirt and mold is fine as they can be washed away, what I discovered however is that soil sometimes can scratch Lego pieces that are in contact. I try to use old bricks that are "sacrificial bricks" for those purposes. so far no issues with dirt going through cracks! They seem to be tight enough. Quote
Blakstone Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Interesting concept. I don't think I could ever do that myself. However, wouldn't you be better off using a plate with holes in it than a 2 x 2 stud gap. I am just afraid that you would lose too much soil from your pot. Quote
McDuder Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I'm not into gardening or keeping flowers but I can get behind this. Good stuff. Quote
Spider-Man Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 That looks incredible! What an amazing idea Next lets see the white tree of Gondor with an accompanying burning Denethor! Quote
gedren_y Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 The biggest problem will probably be the bricks discoloring from sustained direct sunlight. Quote
Lady K Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 What a neat idea. Especially for Bonsai Trees. Or small house plants. Quote
Gabe Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 That is seriously cool! My partner is an avid gardener, she would love this. Quote
