Superkalle Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 About wether a wheel loader model would have looked better if it wasn't a Volvo: One thing that struck me is the straight in-line 6 engine (Volvo standard). It's longer then normal, and usually Technic engines are equiped with whatever cylinder count that fits. In this case, to make it realistics, the correct amount (6) was used. So in this sence, the model could have looked different (and element budget used on other parts) if it wasn't for the 6 cylinder engine. On the other hand, if 100% realism is what to strive for, most other brands also have big engines, so it wouldn't matter I suppose. Quote
N-4K0 Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 I do believe they could have made 42030 just as good making a replica of a Volvo - or whatever other brand - loader. A loader based on the look/shape of a real loader, like they did with 8265. Preferably in another color too, like orange, too few big sets in orange. Quote
davidmull Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Has anyone tried power puller wheels on 42030 yet? Quote
jantjeuh Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Doubt PPs would work well, the single XL supplies barely enough torque as it is. Quote
Sariel Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 And you would have to seriously mod the chassis for them, too. The PP tires are much wider, you would need to widen both axles to prevent tires from rubbing against the body. Then there are mudguards. Then there is torque - PP tires are great torue eaters. Quote
jorgeopesi Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 (edited) For me the wheels and bucket are perfect, the massive body is the solvable problem. Edited June 18, 2014 by jorgeopesi Quote
Lundgren Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Has anyone tried power puller wheels on 42030 yet? Hehe actually yesterday I thought I'd try it on another more beautiful loader... But I really need the bigger bucket. Guess which!? Quote
davidmull Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 That's a pity because the look great on 9398 and fit fine. Quote
davidmull Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Just a note that there is a noticeable gap in front of the cab on the real 350F. Also does anyone think the tires on 42030 are a tad small compared to the real machine Quote
Technic-Kobaltz Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Agreed David, the wheels are far too small, the body size is fine. Quote
Superkalle Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Just a note that there is a noticeable gap in front of the cab on the real 350F. Also does anyone think the tires on 42030 are a tad small compared to the real machine A MOC solution for the tires could be to use black rims with a yellow center cap. That would give the illusion that the tires has higher profile. Three examples, from left to right 1) Original 2) Yellow rim, yellow center 3) Black rim, yellow center Quote
dhc6twinotter Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Oh how I wish LEGO would make the 6x6 dishes in yellow. Quote
Superkalle Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Oh how I wish LEGO would make the 6x6 dishes in yellow. Yeah, you're right - those don't exist in yellow. But I suppose 44375 Dish could be used then....or something else? Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 What about using a large technic tread sprocket with a smaller dish inside it? Quote
Superkalle Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Are those LEGO pieces and colors? I can't make out what they are. Quote
Zerobricks Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Are those LEGO pieces and colors? I can't make out what they are. Efferman's custom parts :) Quote
merman Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 (edited) I just called Lego to order some missing parts. I also mentioned the bucket. The very helpful man told me there is no license to the bucket as far as he could tell. He could not tell me a price or a release date of the bucket. Edited June 20, 2014 by merman Quote
OzShan Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 ... Still need to test the train controller. Hope I don't forget it tonight How'd that work out for you? :) I'm keen to see how well it responds left and right. Quote
