wimpie3 Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Hello there, I'm interested in building Han's Dump Truck, but I absolutely want to add PF motors. I've seen it done multiple times on YouTube. Although Han says it's not possible on his website due to lack of space, it clearly is. However, no-one seems to be able to tell me how it is done. I've seen some pictures, but no detailed technical drawings. Any help here? Wim Quote
JTS Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Welcome to EB! It all depends on what functions would you like to add. Lifting the bed should be easily done with a battery box behind the cab, and M/L motor in the chassis and a couple of the original actuators. Raising the 3rd axle might be trickier, but could be done with an 8258-style switch (remember all the functions achieved with just one motor. However if you want to make the functions RC, and even add drive and steering - I think you may be pushing your luck. Quote
Blakbird Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 I'm interested in building Han's Dump Truck, but I absolutely want to add PF motors. I've seen it done multiple times on YouTube. Although Han says it's not possible on his website due to lack of space, it clearly is. Han is a master at motorized trucks, so if he says there is no space then I would take his word for it. I have built this truck and it is very heavy and dense. However, with LEGO there is always a way so good luck to you! Let us know what you come up with. As someone who's built all of Han's trucks, I can say that I appreciate that this one has no motors. While PF is interesting, I found that I only used the motors the day I built the models and the rest of the time I found myself wishing there were no motors so it would be easier to just push around. Note that Han's models all come with a "motor decoupling" feature so it is not hard to disengage the motors if you want to. Mine are almost always disengaged. Quote
skriblez Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 I really want to build his mocs. Guess we will see what happens after i'm done with this ultimate 42009 and the 8043 when i pick it up in oslo :) Quote
matrosov Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 To resurect this topic. Is there instructions floating somewhere for motorizing and RC'ing Hans dump truck. It is absolutely awesome but from playability perspective I have two 6 year old kids, it will go a long way if they could Remotely control it. I can live without pneumatic functions gear drive tilt is fine. Hans lowloader along with Jurgen's ultimate crane and excavator gave us almost full construction vehicle garage all is missing is a dump truck. :). Quote
Blakbird Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Han is an amazing builder and most of his builds are motorized. If you read what he wrote about the dump truck, you'll see that he considered motorizing it but couldn't find the space with all the other functions. If he couldn't do it, it won't be easy. Quote
wimpie3 Posted November 29, 2013 Author Posted November 29, 2013 Well, if you search through YouTube, there are plenty of guys who converted the Dump Truck to PF... but alas, no info on how they did it. Quote
matrosov Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Right. Han wrote on his web site that pneumatics that he used left no space for the motors and IR receivers. I would love a version without a pneumatics but with PF functions. Would be awesome if Han created a B model like that. Also it appears now that low loader and dump truck are no longer free. They are 10 euros for instructions. Very small price to pay. I'd pay double or triple for that PF dump truck. Just in case Han is reading this. :) Quote
wimpie3 Posted January 17, 2014 Author Posted January 17, 2014 Any news on this guys? Did someone get this working? Quote
JTS Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Have you considered this smaller scale dumptruck by Madoca? (I find more and more of his indredible models each week!) Quote
jantjeuh Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Wow, that's a beautiful dump truck. Madoca is very, very skilled. TLG: hire this person already! Can't find photo instructions for it on his G+ account, shame. Quote
Theo van Vroenhoven Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Wow, that's a beautiful dump truck. Madoca is very, very skilled. TLG: hire this person already! Can't find photo instructions for it on his G+ account, shame. I am afraid that TLG won't let hem create that complex designs... So we as AFOLs are better off if he continues to produce these nice MOCs... Quote
designer-han Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 I did read this..... And a PF with pneumatic pump is on my wish list to build.... I'm sure its possible now with the new steering gear racks (the dump truck 10x8 does not have them) which will save space, the mini LA's for pulling the third axle, a pneumatic pump to control the dump bed and the servo motor for steering. Only thing to figure out is where the XL motor has to be placed as the pneumatic cylinders for dumping are 'in the way' for placing a XL motor closely to both rear axles for powering them with a short drivetrain. jantjeuh Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 (edited) I am afraid that TLG won't let hem create that complex designs... Madoca has also produced some very nice, smaller, less complex MOCs. He is a very skilled designer. Edited January 17, 2014 by jantjeuh Quote
wimpie3 Posted January 17, 2014 Author Posted January 17, 2014 Han, IMHO you don't need pneumatic cylinders for the dump bed. This can be done as shown here in the first picture: Quote
designer-han Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Clever solution! Might consider this... Quote
wimpie3 Posted January 19, 2014 Author Posted January 19, 2014 Han, does this mean you are willing to create an RC version of the dump truck? That would be AWESOME! Quote
jantjeuh Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Han is already busy with creating the instructions for the stone trailer truck I bet Quote
wimpie3 Posted June 5, 2014 Author Posted June 5, 2014 Any update on this guys? Waiting for more info so I can finish my Dump Truck. Quote
designer-han Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 No news, Han? I am afraid to so say so..... No news. Currently busy with the instructions of the dragline. New model in my mind is a dump truck, but then the mining version with the new panels of the 42035 and unimog wheels. But not a brick yet made of it.... :-) Quote

Don't let anything distract you from working on that dragline! Quote
darksheep Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Hi are there instruction for "Have you considered this smaller scale dumptruck by Madoca? (I find more and more of his indredible models each week!)" Quote
gevans12 Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 I have asked this question before and sadly no there is not! Quote
wimpie3 Posted January 13, 2015 Author Posted January 13, 2015 Damn, I'm so close... I have removed the tilting mechanism for the third wheel (it is always in the lower position now) to make room for the motor to lift the dump bed. The motor for the wheels sits where the engine was in Han's design, but that's too far away (too much torque on the driveshaft). Damn. I really like his model... if only this was RC... The problem is that I know for sure there is a solution, judging the clips on YouTube... Quote
