Hrafn Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I've checked the-blueprints.com and was unable to find blueprints for this truck. Bedford has been out of business for a long time, so I can't download technical data sheets, and there appear to be no electronic copies of manuals for the truck(s) available online. Does anyone know where I might find blueprints, or at least some dimensions (tire size, wheelbase) and basic information (suspension type, gearbox, etc.)? Thank you! Quote
Bricktrain Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 All the gearboxes were 4 speed +R crash boxes. The smaller ones we had here were 214 petrol, the larger ones 300 petrol, though 330 diesels were also available, all six cylinders. All were multi leaf springs and could be on 16 or 20" wheels. At telecom we had single and double cabs, wheelbases varied, I dont have actual measurements of those. Quote
NICKCEFFY Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I am just starting to do up a J5 truck, if you want i could get a few measurements for you. Quote

When you say multi leaf springs, do you mean that both front and rear axles were suspended on one longitudinal leaf spring per side? Are both axles powered, or just the rear? I am just starting to do up a J5 truck, if you want i could get a few measurements for you. Thank you, that would be great! The main things are - wheel and tire diameter - tire width - wheelbase (not absolutely needed but helpful as a check) I think I can estimate the other dimensions from photographs. Quote
Bricktrain Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Each wheel had its own leaf spring. Only the rear axles were powered on the ones here. I havent seen a 4wd J series, we had MK 4wds and the army had RL 4wds, MKs were forward control the same as the TK, the RLs had a very short bonnet, almost flat front. Quote

I've been looking at the feasibility of doing a Truck Trial version of one of the highly decorated Pakistani trucks ("jingle trucks"), and longnose Bedford J series seem to be the most common foundation for those. RWD with leaf springs is not really Truck Trial material, though. It doesn't look like the MKs and RLs were ever used as commercial vehicles in South Asia, sadly. Oh well. I'll keep looking to see if there are any 4x4 or 6x4 jingle trucks out there. Edited September 26, 2013 by Hrafn Quote
Doc_Brown Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Good luck with your searching! Perhaps find a good video with a walk around of your chosen truck. Thats what I do when I want to build an obscure truck. (mine had just 20 references on Google, YES 20!) Quote

Often it seems like photos of vehicles are only front 3/4 shots - I hadn't thought of looking at walkaround videos. For now I think I'll have to put this one on the back burner and focus my energies on my current project. Quote
