Luke Styer Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Artic Batman suit is "inspired" by antarctic Nite Owl from the second last chapter of Watchmen. If true that's only fair considering Nite Owl was, in turn, "inspired" by Batman. Also, even if that particular costume variation was in someone's mind when the notion of an arctic suit for Batman in this particular LEGO set, I find it pretty hard to believe that Batman never appeared in a white variation on his costume in the 40 plus years between his introduction and the publication of Watchmen. Variant costumes were a staple of Silver Age DC comics in general. I eventually picked up this set, and I thought the Bat Boat was a fun build, though I agree that the yellow highlights are a little odd. I suppose the yellow oval sort of makes yellow a more sensible highlight color than the blue of the Tumbler set, but I still wish LEGO had stuck more with black and grey. I almost immediately let Aquaman out of the ice block and put Captain America in. Quote
Debricker Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 great review man, This is so on my want list Quote
Jargo Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Strangely the only parts of this set I like are Aquaman's hair and Freeze's helmet visor. Quote
ETAV8R Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Great review. Right now in the states this set is on sale for $16 at Target. Quote
SpacySmoke Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I was putting my Mr. Freeze into the Arkham Asylum set and it made me realize why they didn't put a second face on his head. When in a freezing environment, Mr. Freeze doesn't need his helmet, so he's actually the equivalent of a bald minifig...thus, no second face. Quote
305Bats Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Batman appeared in an all white arctic suit on the "The Batman" cartoon. Quote
Csacsa234 Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Finally got my hand on this set! The batboat is IMO one of the best Lego Batman vehicles ever, the disc shooting function is really clever and its working perfectly. The figs are awesome too, however Aquaman could use a less boyband-ish hair . but the new Batsy and Freeze are very great. Only thing that bothers me is that you can't put Batman in the Boat without crinkling the cape. Overall its a neaerly perfect set for me! Quote

SoupOrFishOil Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 I think that either the series 3 Race driver hair or Draco Malfoy 2011 hair will look good. I tried Malfoy's hair. I think that they made Aquaman's eyebrows too light, and the shorter, lighter hairpiece draws attention to this. Quote
korpen4444 Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Nice review "Oky"! I'm definitely getting this set now. The Batboat has a very interesting build, and I'm on a mission to collect the Justice League, so I have to grab Aquaman. And the last panel is gold! Especially Cap's face Quote
305Bats Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 I'm using the CMF Tennis Player's tan hair on my Aquaman, looks way better! Quote
TeufelHund Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 My son got this set from a Lego event recently and I have to say it is more impressive than I thought it would be - the Batski (as he calls it) is much larger and more impressive than I thought it would be and the transparent BURP Ice Prison is quite nice too - plus the minfigs are great. Batman is actually probably the least impressive! Quote
Legocity2713 Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Great set. I bought it but never built it. Put the parts in my collection and made the figures. It is my only set that I bought and did not fully build. Great job though Oky. I love your reviews, very clean, organized, and concise. And funny too. Quote
RoboPretzel Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 I've got this set, actually. I've just got one question. Why do they make the characters in the box art look left-handed? Quote
Coca-Cola Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 (edited) Why do they make the characters in the box art look left-handed? The canister on Freeze's gun would have blocked his chest and that wouldn't look as good, Aquaman was most likely coincidence. Just looks better for the poses they're in. Batman is actually shown to be right handed in both the front and back? Probably the most underrated DC Superheroes/ Batman set though. One of my personal favourites, still. RoboPretzel Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 The canister on Freeze's gun would have blocked his chest and that wouldn't look as good I can just take the canister off and put it on the other side for that. Quote
Coca-Cola Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 I can just take the canister off and put it on the other side for that. Yes. You could have also swapped around some bricks on the Batboat to make it look as you wanted it to. LEGO however designed the set with the canister facing left. It's how it is in the instructions, mini comic etc. etc. They have to advertise their product the way they built it and with that said, they chose to put his gun in his left hand to make it look more attractive. I get the feeling you may have something against left-handers because considering also Batman is shown right handed on the box, it seems like a real weird thing to point out Quote
