Hi,

Since I got so excellent tips for Hamburg in May from you  , I decided to ask you tips for my visit to Berlin (3.-5.8.2012). Of course I'll visit all the obvious shops (LEGO Store, Kaufhof, Karstadt), but are there any good advices for even better shopping trip? I have almost the whole Friday for shopping, so also a little trip by U-bahn is definatly ok.

Is there some kind of shop for used bricks, like in Hamburg?

In a fascinating city with so much to see and do as Berlin, you really shouldn't spend an entire day shopping for LEGO imo. :classic:

That's true for sure. Well, I have Saturday and especially Sunday to visit the city itself, so let's hope that's enough. :)

Have you been there before? If not, 2 days surely is not enough! :oh:

But then of course, I'm biased because I love Berlin to death. Such a wonderful city! :cry_happy:

Nope, never before... I know that I would love to stay several weeks in Berlin, but my job and my wallet won't allow it. And when you don't see everything, then there's always a reason to visit again.

And oh what a joy it was in Hamburg to shop all day, filling your hotel room with bricks...

So, any hypermarket tips? Or shop for used bricks anywhere?

There's the "Spielzeugladen an der Kaiereiche" (map), said to be the leading shop for Lego in Berlin which also sells new and used bricks. Haven't been there myself, though – I didn't have the time on my only visit (so far) to Berlin in May, since they are closed on Mondays which happened to be the only "big shopping day" I could put in my schedule around the congress I was attending. (At least my hotel was almost next to the official Lego Store. :classic: )

Hi, im heading to Berlin in December for 3 days as I have heard such good things! I hope to visit the official shop at some point but is there anywhere else I should visit in Berlin? I have never been before. I am 26. Also I have not booked a hotel yet! Maybe I should ask to sleep above the Lego shop! :classic:

Here's a list of cool stuff to see in Berlin I made for a friend of mine who was going there a couple of years ago:

Reichstag

Seat of parliament. Pretty cool building with an interesting story - and a great view from the roof!

Brandenburger Tor

The old city port is perhaps the most famous building of Berlin. It is, among other things, where Ronald Reagan spoke the famous "Mr. Gorbatjov - tear down this wall!" line.

Olympiastadion

The old Olympic Stadion built for the 1936 (I think) games by the nazis (which shows in the architecture and certain design elements). An impressive sight with a fascinating history whether you're a sports fan or not.

Kurfürstendamm

A looooong streat with lots of shops. If you want to shop for something, chances are you'll find it on this street!

East Side Gallery

Presently the longest piece of the wall that still stands erect which runs by the river Spree and is roughly 1.3 km long. It's filled with all sorts of interesting graffiti. Souveneir shops there sells alledged pieces of the walls, East German military medals and other stuff.

Großer Tiergarten

A large and impressive park where they used to hunt wildlife back in the days.

Alexanderplatz

Home of the impressive TV Tower, the Berliner Fensehturm and the World Clock, Weltzeituhr - which shows nearly all times from across the world.

Berlin Zoo

One of the largest zoos in the world. If you like animals, go see it. If you don't, skip it.

Potsdamer Platz

Close to Brandenburger Tor is this space that joins West and East Berlin. It has a bunch of exciting, hyper-modern architecture.

Checkpoint Charlie

The famous old checkpoint between East and West, now a museum. The actual checkpoint is still there to see. The checkpoint itself is pretty cool, but the museum is rather boring imo. And that's from someone who otherwise loves history.

Das Klo

A fun little pub with a toilet theme. Refreshingly different and quite fun. If you're going out for a beer, this wouldn't be a bad place to do so.

KaDeWe

Kaufhaus Des Westens is a giant mall at the end of Kurfürstendamm.

Kaiser Wilhelm Gedächtniskirche

An old church from 1895 that was bombed to ruins during WWII. Instead of repairing it, they let the ruins stand as a monument and instead erected a rather peculiar new church next to it instead. Together, it's an interesting sight.

Unter Den Linden

A boulevard that takes its name from the many trees along it. It is home to a lot of statues and memoriums and leads to Brandenburger Tor. It is especially spectacular at night, when lit.

Rotes Rathaus

"The Red City Hall", known for... well, being red. It's a pretty sight.

Excellent, thank you! That shop is definately a must.

Are the any huge hypermarkets outside the city centre where there could be discounts (but where you could travel easily by U-bahn or bus)?
