iDave Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 (edited) Hi Guys, after yesterdays review I couldn't resist myself of posting another one. I chose a set that hasn't been reviewed before, this was the only one in my collection. So I hope you enjoy it! --------- 7498 Police Station Theme: City Subtheme: Police Year released: 2011 Pieces: 783 Minifigs: 6 Price: €99,99 S@H the box The box is quite large, but so are all boxes these days. The front show a nice overview of the complete set. On the back we can see the playability of the set with the special feature's. Pieces Almost 800 pieces, lots of plates and columns for the building. I already build the set once, so al the stickers are already applied. Instructions 4 books for the complete set. the minifigs The minifigs look nice and there are 6 of them. I also like the dog with the printed head police car 01 So lets go on with the build. Booklet 1 lets us build the first car of the set. The build is really straight forward as all of todays 4 wide cars. The finished car is nice overall, fits nice between the current City police cars. police car 02 The second booklet lets us build the next car of the set. It's a little van for the dog patrol. The build is again straight forward with nothing special going on. The finished car looks great, I really like the addition of the roof rack. garage and prison Booklet 3 lets us build the first part of the building of the station. The double garage looks real nice, on top of that there are the 2 prison cells. There's a dog pen with a bowl and a bone wich is a nice addition. I wonder why I would put the crow bars under the beds of the prison cells, makes it kinda easy to escape for the prisoners... The cell doors that slide in in front of the cells lets you close and open the cells. For playability the prisoners can escape at the back of the toilets and can climb down rain drainpipe. main building The fourth book lets you build the main building of the police station. The first floor finished. It has a front desk with a phone and big screen where you can see al the crime's happening and sent out car to it. The second floor. Where the officers can take the mugshots of the prisoners. The third floor with the water cooler and coffee machine. There's also a desk with some clues to solve the next crime. The finished building. The only thing I really miss with this set is a chopper. A shame that the platform is empty. The complete set Design & Build: 8/10 - Real nice design Parts: 8/10 - Lots of plates and 2 garage doors wich I always liked! Almost 800 pieces. Minifigures: - 9/10 6 minifig's is always a good catch, but nothing real fancy. Playability: - 10/10 two trucks, a trailer and a commando center! I know I would love this if I had this back in the late 80's! Value: 8/10 - I got the set for €80. I think the asking price from Lego is a little bit to high. Overall: 43/50 - It's a real nice set with lot's of playability, the 2 cars are a nice build. But I think it lags a chopper, you have the platform, but it sits empty up there on the roof. Thanks for reading. Edited May 13, 2012 by Rick Quote
just2good Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Nice review, 'iDave'! I think this is the best City Police Station set. The exterior design is phenomenal. I would pick this one up, but I already have the 2008 version. Quote
Vindicare Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Great review, I like the pictures. I missed out on this purposefully, I got the one before it. I wish I didn't once I saw this. Also, this is how the hospital should've been. Big and full of all the necessary details. I really like the suspect wall. The heights are in bricks. Quote
Big Cam Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 What a nice review! Your pictures are great, have you ever thought of joining the Reviewers Academy? I think you'd do quit well, your pictures are great. I like the build progression shots, also I never realized how big this set is. Thanks for the review. Quote
streifen Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 thank you for the review! I have this set for at least half a year but it is still unopened and in my storeroom. at least now with this review, i can see what i am missing out on by not opening it yet. Quote
mrlegoman Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 I picked this up for A$89.00 at Big W last year. This is my favourite police station, in particular I love the office tower part, not too fussed on the garage and jail cell. Also the 4wd jeep is a nice design. The blue shirt officer is a bonus too. LukeWarmTea Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 Hey all, I'm aware this is old, but I thought I'd ask - is this, or the new 2014 Police Station the best? Value for money says the new one, which in NZD is $160 while this (which is still for sale in some places!) is $200. I like the newer uniforms, and more pieces, more figs, more vehicles suggests the new one - but is the building lacking something? This build looks massive and lots of fun, so what's the new one like? Quote
henrylego Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 (edited) well. I still prefer this to the new one. The building looks more "normal", more "real", to the AFOL. while the new one can be more fun for the kid as it offers more playability. Well, that's my very personal opinion. I could be biased on this since I have owned this version and have no intention to buy the new one Edited January 25, 2014 by henrylego Quote
Doom2099 Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 well. I still prefer this to the new one. The building looks more "normal", more "real", to the AFOL. while the new one can be more fun for the kid as it offers more playability. I agree. I think this police station will continue to stand out for years to come. It just comes across as really solid thanks to the width and three floors. Of course, it would be even better if you have two, and actually filled in the back as well. Quote
LukeWarmTea Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 Do you guys have the new one? Or seen it built IRL? I can't find a review anywhere, would be nice to have some thoughts from someone who has built it. Quote
sin Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 Hey all, I'm aware this is old, but I thought I'd ask - is this, or the new 2014 Police Station the best? Value for money says the new one, which in NZD is $160 while this (which is still for sale in some places!) is $200. I like the newer uniforms, and more pieces, more figs, more vehicles suggests the new one - but is the building lacking something? This build looks massive and lots of fun, so what's the new one like? I picked up the older station for my son a couple of xmas' ago. It was a steal at the time on Amazon - $65 US. From what I see the new one has the same msrp ( $100 US ) and although it has some cool features - for one I really like the gated entrance - I think I prefer the design of the older one. This was the first large building that my son had in his collection and over the last year he has added the city garage, new fire station, robber hideout from a couple years back, and space center with the launchpad and rocket from the last space wave. The police station is by far his most loved building and is involved in just about every play session he has. Quote
LukeWarmTea Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Looking at the pics again I can see how the old build is a bit more substantial, but it's so hard to tell without seeing the new one properly. I wish someone would do a review! Quote
polarscribe Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I like the new one's office building design, but the jail section is awful - you have to rely on magic hands to put the prisoners in their cells. Quote
