LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Agree.. I would have rather seen the entire vehicle with the Orange/Black Combo.. Right ...but the suspension and steering system are awesome! Quote

DLuders Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 (edited) There are several 9398 sets available now in this Berlin, Germany location. On that Doktor Brick Community topic that Efferman found, GBCPeter added (via a rough translation from German to English): "As a first impression, I can say the Steering servo has damn quick response and can be used to very precisely to the point to control....The [new] L motor is in my opinion a M motor with new housing and better mounting positions....The [Lego Element ID for the new 4L Technic Axle above] is 4666999 but still not listed in the relevant databases." Meatman Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 So this released even earlier than the unimog did last year? Does anyone remember when the 8110 was released last year after Germany got the first wave? Quote
Zerobricks Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 I dont understand the point of the new axle... I thought it will be something like a 4L axle with a stop? Unless the round part keeps the gear from falling off/sliding out the axle... oooh got it...! Quote
efferman Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 the owner of the crawler thinks it could reduce the friction and abrasion. Quote
Zerobricks Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 I think it keeps the axle from sliding out of the differentials? And also from sliding out of motor holes? Quote

Nice that it is already on sale, but I ain't gonna spend 47euro extra just to get the set early. I got my unimog that year on around the 29/7 - 2011 and that was on a preorder from a danish independent reseller(shop), but that is still within TLG homemarket despite I suspect that lego not always show that in any way. It would stink if you could never get a vehicle to drive straight. Quote
Zerobricks Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Like on an RC car, does the servo motor have an adjustment to where "center" is? It would stink if you could never get a vehicle to drive straight. Electronics? A simple optical or mechanical switch. Quote
allanp Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 If the servo is being controlled by the controller that comes with the set then it will only go left-middle-right with no stops in between because this remote does not have the capability to send the information needed to get the motor to stop anywhere else. It may still be proprotional but won't know until it is tested with a suitable controller. I don't know if the train controller would work for this either. Quote
davidmull Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 I wonder has Lego made an advertisement video for this yet, was the Unimog advert video not out this time last year. Quote
freakwave Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 After reading about the availability of the Rock-Crawler I had to quickly drop by the LEGO-Store in the evening. Both the Helicopter and the Crawler were on the shelves. And they had even one assembled so it was hands on immediately. Unfortunately the batteries were quite weak already ... The thing looking like the "drive-train" is more or less the "steering-train" using the Unimog's parts for the drive-train (what a sentence). It virtually has not drive train as we already know the L-motors sit directly on the axles. Referring to allanp's comment on the proportional steering, I did not think of trying it in the store before I left, but I do not think it is possible. Would have been a good idea to check it with a train-remote which produces a "proportional" signal. Colorwise I find it quite pleasing, the orange accents work well and add another source of orange Technic-Parts (also connectors) to the line. Accessibility to batteries and on/off switch is ok. The door-lock is a simple but intriguing solution, I like it. You need to open one of them to switch on the battery-pack. Construction feels very sturdy. ...and no, I did not buy them yet... but birthday's coming soon and I still do have a -20% voucher for Legoland... fW Quote
vmln8r Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 To whoever buys it, can you please post a scan of the inventory pages? I'm itching to get some parts from Lego direct. Quote

Let me know if you manage to do so.. I might do the same thing I think it keeps the axle from sliding out of the differentials? And also from sliding out of motor holes? What exactly did you have in mind? Quote
Zerobricks Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 (edited) Think! The ring on axle doesnt allow the gear to slide of. Because the gear cant slide out the whole axle cant slide out of the diff. Its so simple, you just have to get it Edited June 24, 2012 by Zblj Quote
S.I Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 (edited) But the axis is too long to be placed into the diff in such a way that the gear cannot slide off, its [gear]+ two studs, unless you only want one gear in the diff and then it aint a diff. E: unless you mean add gears outside of the diff and then beams Edited June 24, 2012 by S.I Quote

E: unless you mean add gears outside of the diff and then beams There are bricks holding the outside of the 12 toothg gear! The axles's fat part is inside the frame. The 12 tooth gears is behind the fat part. The axle cannot slide out of the 12 tooth gears cause ofits fat parts and the gear cant slide cause there are bricks holding it. Quote
S.I Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 (edited) Ya that makes sense, at first I thought you meant the gears inside the diff itself cant fall off and that wouldn't have worked. Preordered mine @ buch/thalia for 150, hopefully they will send em out before august. Edited June 24, 2012 by S.I Quote

Zerobricks Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 great news: the servo is proportional with the speed remote. we have only no return to center Doesnt it steer to center when there is no signal as you press the stop button on train remote? Quote
efferman Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 (edited) good question, i will ask him edit: yes, by pressing the stop button the servo goes back in center position. conclusion: the crawler has the wrong remote included Edited June 24, 2012 by efferman Quote
