Velika314 Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 (edited) Lego never seems to tire of making the Millennium Falcon in as many different ways as possible. We've seen so many different incarnations of the iconic Star Wars vessel in LEGO (six to be exact) that it can be hard to pick and choose which to get. So how does this set compare to the others and did LEGO pull off an accurate mini-scale version of the Falcon? Set Name: 4488 Mini Millennium Falcon Theme: Star Wars Released: 2003 Pieces: 87 Price: No Longer Sold in Stores Place of Purchase: Ebay Let's start with the instruction booklet as I did not receive the box when I ordered the set. Instruction Booklet A small booklet clearly intended for a small set. There are no piece call-outs in the booklet. It has a nice starry background. The instruction booklet is made of a thin, easily ripped type of paper. This is what happens when you don't handle it carefully. It was like this when I got it. This set also comes with parts to build the left wing of a Y-Wing. If you buy the other mini's, then you can complete the Y-Wing. I will not be including the parts for 1/4 of the mini Y-Wing in this review. Parts List What?! No parts list? The Parts A nice variety of colors and parts. The red looks somewhat out of place in the Millennium Falcon. It would be nicer if LEGO just made the red parts grey like those in the rest of the set. The Build The base of the Falcon is built. The wings are added. Getting ready to add the sides. The sides are added and the top and bottom are ready to be added. The bottom piece is held in with an axle that goes through the Falcon. The top is built, details are added, and the set is finished. Details The back has some nice detail and a hyper speed drive, I believe. I do notice a tad of red though. This side looks just right. I'm so glad there are no stickers in this set. The front is filled with holes! There is obviously no way this ship could operate like this! How would one get into the cockpit? The cockpit still looks terrible from this angle. Other than that, the two sides are identical. Conclusion Playability: 1/5 There are nearly no features in this set for kids to play with. Design: 3/5 The axle in the middle was creative and a somewhat effective way to achieve the desired look. Build: 4/5 Small sets are very hard to rate on the build aspect, but I was satisfied by the result and enjoyed the process. Parts: 4/5 A nice variety of parts in many colors. I didn't think the red was necessary though. Swooshibility: 5/5 It holds together and can be easily played with. Overall: 3/5 I wouldn't spend the money that it costs nowadays for it. It would be better to get the midi-scale Falcon if you can't afford the bigger ones. Brickshelf Gallery Edited August 28, 2011 by Velika314 Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 I own this set, and I think it's got some nice parts at MSRP, but nothing more than that. This is a pretty nice review. Have you ever considered joining the Reviewers Academy? By the way, this isn't the smallest Falcon. There was a keychain that was smaller. Quote

Ah, your right. Unfortunately I can't change that. I guess I thinking of the sets it's the smallest. In my opinion, keychains don't count. Edited August 28, 2011 by Velika314 Quote

LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Wonderful review! I didn't know about the left wing of the Y-wing. Nice set and very sharp realization! Quote
