Back many months ago when Avatar was in the theaters I saw it and was inspired to build a gunship based on those in the movie. I've been meaning to post this for quite a few months, and I finally got around to it...

The MOC isn't strictly colour-coded as I do not have a very large selection of bricks to build with, but I did my best. Like I said, it is based on the gunships from the movie, and I did not attempt to make it an accurate copy.

Probably the funnest part of designing it was incorporating a battery pack and motor so that the rotors actually spin on their own.

So, without further ado, my first MOC posted on EB...

A few close-ups of the rotor mechanism:

Just look at all those guns...

The interior is not detailed except for the control panels in the cockpit, so there isn't much to see (which is good because it was hard to get the camera in there anyways!).

I had a better picture of the cockpit somewhere but it... disappeared :(

Somehow, a Clone Trooper armed with a bazooka has managed to sneak on board...

"We're going up against gunships with bows and arrow"... aahh, but this time we have ROBIN HOOD on our side...

That's most of it - there are a few more pictures on my Brickshelf

Comments, anyone?

Thanks,

Pretty decent attempt on the Avatar Gunship Erynion, not bad for a first MOC. I think you got the basic shape right and the working rotors are a good touch. However, I think there is an issue with parts and colors selection. I would assume you have limited parts and you just worked with what you had right? I suggest you try to improve on that when you have the necessary parts, as it is already a good starting point.

Hello!

A quite good attempt at the rotorcraft, especially considering your limited parts stock. :classic: I like the use of the otherwise not so useful Rock Raiders cockpit which works fine here. I can imagine that with increasing parts stock you will refine and perfection your ship. :classic:

Furthermore I think you chose the right forum. The licensed forum is for themes where TLC holds a license. There is an "Avatar" license but this refers to a different series with the same name than the movie (Avatar Sets). But for the recent movie by James Cameron TLC does not (yet) hold a license when I'm not mistaken. :classic:

Hey Erynion,

For a limited parts collection, I'm very impressed with your build. I think it very well illustrates that if you had a larger collection, you could really build a smashing MOC. You've managed to capture a very good shape (the top-down view shows it of particularly well), and the working rotors are a fantastic addition. The fact that you've implemented a motor into this further shows off your ability, as motors are space-consuming and sometimes hard to work into a set without sacrificing other elements. Nice work, and keep expanding your collection! I'd love to see what you can do with a full parts selection :classic:.

Sorry mate, I'm gonna go with KielDaMan here, I think that while you're enthusiasm was good you're issues with parts selection and colour, as well as the admittingly basic design on the ship damage what could have been greatly.

However your Robin Hood job made me laugh in my seat, one of the best Avatar parodies I've seen

Thanks for the comments.

To be honest, I was a little surprised at how serious an issue some of you took with my colours - from my perspective, I just used what I had, like I've always done. This was actually one of my better-coloured models that I've made (most of what I built as a kid - castles, spaceships, everything - were a generally a mix of red, yellow, white, and blue, with little if any realistic colours or even colour-coding). I guess I'm getting used to the world of AFOLs and 'serious' modellers :classic:

For this model, I'm just going to pretend that the minifigure who owns it has an artistic talent and likes to splash a bit of paint on it during off time

Great MOC. It looks like it should and stays together.

Yes, colour is a big issue for AFOLS (unless you are a "big name" and then it is "a daring use of an uncommon palet")

One great improvement I can offer is for the presentation: Use a white base under the MOC when taking the photo (paper, card, foamboard even a smooth sheet) it makes everything look a whole lot better.
