zero1312 Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 (edited) I really love this new theme. But as usual none of the sets are 100% flawless. Here are mods to improve the figures (in my opinion). Sorry if some pics are bit blurry. My camera is a bit old. Von Nebula: Added these gray rings to his heels, shoulders, upper legs: Remade the neck to reduce the wobbling to near zero: (can't help to think that the tri-axle in the back looks like an engine block for some reason) Switched the connection for the staff so it looks more like he's holding it instead of attached to the hand: Rotor: Replaced the pin with a stud-axle: Made the feet symetrical: Switched the launcher parts around to make it more centered: Xplode: Replaced the six-stud axle with two three-stud axles to make him hold his weapon like he does in the boxart: Attached the shoulders in a different way so they are closer to the arm: Much better, no?: Meltdown: I attached the launcher like Lego did on Vapour: The black make the pods less bland and cheap: A bonus poser pic: Thunder: I never liked how the chest piece attaches to the body, so I used one of the new axles with stoppers. It's much sturdier: I did the same thing from Meltdown to Thunder: Made the claw symetrical: Poser pic: There's nothing for Corroder, because the only thing I did is removing the sphere launcher. Aanchir Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 This is a bit of an odd request, but seeing as you were willing to mod BIONICLE sets onto Hero Factory bodies, and seeing as you have Von Nebula, I was curious if you'd consider modding Von Nebula onto a default Hero body structure. I'm thinking standard Hero Factory body, legs, and feet, but with the black webbed Piraka foot from his torso as the torso armor, and with the same face-mask as the Von Nebula set. I imagine it would work well, considering the size of the armor pieces and helmet, and it could give a good prediction of what Von Nebula might have looked like as the hero Von Ness. Anyway, more on-topic, I like these mods. Not all of them seem essential (perhaps they might if I had these sets myself and could see their flaws in person rather than just in photos), but they mostly seem to be an improvement. Only one that I don't really see any improvement in is the modding of Rotor's feet. After all, feet in real life aren't symmetrical, and while Rotor's feet don't even slightly resemble real feet in shape I still don't see the point of the mod unless he has trouble balancing in the actual set. The mod of XPlode's arms is nice, but I still can't help thinking it would be so much better if his upper arms were made shorter. As it is, the proportions of his arms bother me a great deal, and I think using the shorter (5-length) double-joints would be a great improvement. Have you considered any ways to pull that off? Overall, great work. If you do any more mods, or even MOC your own custom villains, I'd love to see them. You clearly have a knack for optimizing the sets in terms of practicality. Quote
Makuta Plasmix Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 (edited) I've got a Mod for Corroder. Its for fixing his back. The parts needed. What it should look like from the front. The next steps peices. How they go together Where it goes. Finished product. Corroder attacking a Toa of Iron. Which I may or may not post soon. Anyways, if I had theese sets I would definitely use these. Great Job! Edited August 30, 2010 by Makuta Plasmix Quote
Phantoka_Chirox Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 X-Plode looks MUCH better! Great job! Quote
Aethersprite Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 Nice. I modded Rotor's rotor (lol) and Thunder's claw the same way you did. Interesting way you did with Meltdown's launcher - I may try that. Except I don't have any black hand piece to spare, only gray ones, so it may turn out different. Quote
zero1312 Posted November 17, 2010 Author Posted November 17, 2010 I found a great way to make use of the unused neckjoint and to make his chest stay in place. As a bonus in a nice "how to....": Quote
Phantoka_Chirox Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 I must ask you, where did you get those solid colored zamor spheres? Quote
Masked Builder Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 (edited) I must ask you, where did you get those solid colored zamor spheres? They came with some the Hero Factory sets and one or two of the Power miner sets. Edited November 18, 2010 by Masked Builder Quote
The Mugbearer Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Good! Small fixes, but they do it all along: villains really looks better after your modifications. =) I personally dig Xplode and Meltdown's mods. =3 Quote
