Brickdoctor Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 We have one for Battlefront II, why not Empire at War? For those of you who don't know, EaW is a Real-Time Strategy game set in the Star Wars universe just before the events of Episode IV: A New Hope. I'll start: >When playing as the Rebellion, always target the hanger bays first. Even the weakest Imperial cruisers of the Star Destroyer line can deploy large amounts of TIE Bombers to wreck your fleet. >Even though it seems like a weak strategy, never underestimate the power of the Raid. Rebels can sneak in under Imperial space defenses to battle on the ground. While you can only send in three units at a time, there's noting to prevent you from throwing 3 T4-B companies to weaken the defenses before the main Raid. This will also destroy any Imperial space stations and Hypervelocity guns on the planet, giving your space forces an easier time. Additionally, you can build an Ion Cannon on the ground before attacking in space for an extra punch. >When raiding, always include Han, Chewbacca, C-3PO, and R2-D2 as part of the party. They don't count as one of the three units allowed in the raiding party, and can turn the tide of a battle with their Hero abilities. >When playing as the Empire and you know Red Squadron will be present at a battle, send in a fleet of 20 Tartan Patrol Cruisers just to eliminate them. Red Squadron's 'Lucky Shot' ability can prove extremely annoying and cost you a few Imperial-class Star Destroyers. The Tartans are relatively cheap, and you can always retreat once Red Squadron has been destroyed. >When playing as the Empire, always include an Interdictor with every fleet. I can't begin to stress the importance of eliminating vulnerable Rebel ground units in space. >If playing as the Rebellion and you spot Imperial transports in space, send your starfighters to destroy them before destroying the space station. The AI won't retreat while it has a space station over the planet. Quote
Forresto Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 I usually always try capturing Bespin first thing as it gives 1000 credits per day. Also I use boba fett as an advance scout before I send my fleet against an enemy who has built up strong defenses and a large garrison. I also always bring speeders during a land assualt so that if i'm being overwhelmed by enemy forces, then I can send them to grab another landing zone. Quote

I also always bring speeders during a land assualt so that if i'm being overwhelmed by enemy forces, then I can send them to grab another landing zone. Good idea. Speaking of credits, if you build nothing but mining facilities on Nal Hutta, that combined with the black market planet ability can drive the value up to 1900 credits. It's also a relatively out of the way planet, so it's not going to hamper the military production like if you did it on, say Coruscant. Edited July 8, 2010 by Brickdoctor Quote
Forresto Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 Another couple I discovered work are: >Place the emperor on or in orbit around any planet you are building a large fleet or higher levels of a starbase and you will get a big dicount/price drop. >Always target enemy ship's engines so in case they retreat and they have several expensive, powerful, or large capitol ships then those with no engines will be counted as casualties. >Always place many mining refineries on any non important worlds (those usually insignificant to military production and are not in a strategic position). This is especially important towards the begining of the game when rebels/imperials will usually attack in large attacks which will need an equally large fleet to repel and curruption is expensive of getting rid of. Brickdoctor Posted July 9, 2010 Author Posted July 9, 2010 the emperor on or in orbit around any planet you are building a large fleet or higher levels of a starbase and you will get a big dicount/price drop. 25%, I believe. Also, >When playing as the Rebels, if you capture Kuat and Fondor, the Empire will attack in fleets of 20+ Acclamators and 20+ Tartans - so you'd better have a big fleet ready once you take the fourth Shipyard Planet. For some reason, however, If as the Empire you capture Sullust and Mon Calamari, the Rebels will sit back at whatever planet Mon Mothma is on (usually Hoth) and mass all their space forces instead of attacking. Forresto Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 Also, >When playing as the Rebels, if you capture Kuat and Fondor, the Empire will attack in fleets of 20+ Acclamators and 20+ Tartans - so you'd better have a big fleet ready once you take the fourth Shipyard Planet. For some reason, however, If as the Empire you capture Sullust and Mon Calamari, the Rebels will sit back at whatever planet Mon Mothma is on (usually Hoth) and mass all their space forces instead of attacking. I've noticed that but i've never pinpointed exactly why Also, >Always put your fastest ship in the top left box in your fleet panel. THat makes it so it's the first to go into battle. This way you can get it closer to an enemy starbase and then you can choose what ships you want from your reinforcements(this does not work if you don't have The FOC expansion). It's funny how we're the only two posting in this topic so far Quote

It's funny how we're the only two posting in this topic so far EaW wasn't exactly the most popular of games, but, >Speaking of which unit to deploy first, in land battles, just moving the unit to another fleet space and dragging that down to the planet works too. >To kill Emperor Palpatine, deploy nothing but T-47s. Even though you'll lose the initial force, it's a lot better than losing a company of tanks to Force Corrupt. (which doesn't work on aerial units) Quote
