mrblue Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 hello, I'm living in north eastern part of italy and the closest lego shop with a pick a brick wall is in Munich. from what I've been able to understand from many topics including THIS, the price of pab through lego shop is higher than the one available using the pab cup in stores. I was planning to make a trip to Munich which is about 4 hours drive from where I live, I can spend a couple of days there and during travel time, I may make a stop in the lego store... actually I want to go mainly to the lego shop and use the spare time to travel! how does pab wall works? do they have all the pieces available? how are they sorted? I mean: would it be possible to go there ask for some cups and with a list in my hand wander through the many shelf and pick up what I need? would it be a lot of money saver than buy directly from shop@home? (without considering fuel and hotel obviously) thank you for your replies mrBlue Quote
Cwetqo Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 I live in Slovenia so I have the same distance as you to that shop) (aroun 400km). I have been in that shop four times, but never with main reason to buy form PAB wall. You will understand why when you will see answers to you qouestions: how does pab wall works? You pick up a cup and fill it with what you want. When the cup is full you take it to cash register and they seal it with tape. do they have all the pieces available? Aboslutely not! PAB wall is made of 5-6 rows of boxes with maybe 20 boxes i a row. Maybe half of it is usable in larger quantities (bricks, tiles, plates, plants, roofs...), the rest is either usable just in small quantites (what would you do with more then a few dogs, clocks and so on...) or unusable (paradisa or bionicle parts, just left doors, windows without frame, wheels without tires or holders...). I'm not saying that there are no usable things there, just dont expect to find something speicfic. how are they sorted? on type of brcks in each boxes, boxes are placed (boxes with plates are not all together but scattered all over the wall) I mean: would it be possible to go there ask for some cups and with a list in my hand wander through the many shelf and pick up what I need? Of course, it's the the way this wall is meant to use (self service). Just dont expect to fill according to you list because selection is too limited for this. I usually first make an overview inspection of the wall to see whats available and then start with bigger items and fill up empty spaces with smaller stuff later. would it be a lot of money saver than buy directly from shop@home? (without considering fuel and hotel obviously): If ouy are buying specific items then no. Use Bricklink instead and you will save some money. Just to get an overview what was available on P@B wall in Munich one Month ago (just more interesting things): tiles: 2x2 red and yellow, 1x8 black plates: 2x2, 2x4, 4x10 black, 2x4 brown bricks: 1x6 tan, 2x4 light blue, 1x1 yellow, 1x2 red roofs: red and (limited black) clock, dog, plant leafs, palm leafs, flowers (just red and pink), windcsreens transparent 2x2 panels, 1x1 tiles, plates and cheese slopes (each just in one colour) and so on... So, you could get many usefull bricks, but none of those I would really want (1x1 and 2x2 DBG an LBG tiles, 1x wide bricks in medium blue, dark blue, red or tan, plates with 1 stud width...). But please dont get me wrong: LEGO shop is still worth visiting, you buy (or at least take look at) almost all exclusives, they have regular discounts and many things that are not available in other toy shops. Just do not treat P@B wall as your main reason for visiting, but rather as a bonus to all other things. And f you want specific brick you better use S@H or bricklink. Quote
homoludens Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 You will certainly find your trip worthwhile - even without the Lego store Munich and the whole of Bavaria make for a rewarding holiday. If you are in the Munich area, you might want to check out Legoland in Günzburg which is only 80 Minutes (120 km) west of Munich. They have a great selection of bricks to choose from in the Lego Factory, much better than any PAB wall. Cheers Frank Quote

Mrblue, you might want to take a look at this page. They have a list of all PaB-walls and what they contain. This info may be older, though. By the way - the PaB area in Munich is the biggest I have seen. The other stores have much smaller PaB's. Best way to get new bricks is nevertheless Legoland Germany - the "Fabrik". Quote
Dfenz Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 The Munich Lego Store is in Reim Arcaden shopping mall (an ex-airport which if I recall correctly was the same airport from which in 1958 the Manchester Utd football team crashed on take-off). I find it unusual that the control tower is still there just across from the subway station outside the mall. Its possible to take the U2 tube into the centre of Munich and visit some of the department stores. When I visited in November last the main stores had good Lego selections if you can't make it to Legoland. If you are in Reim Arcaden I'd also check out the Mueller store at the end of the mall as that store carries a good selection of sets (competitively priced). Quote
supersympa Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Hello everybody, I will visit Munich the 24/25 sept for the oktoberfest ;) and I am planning to go to the lego store in the Riem arcade. But is there any other toy store in munich worth visiting while there? Thanks for any reply! Quote
cimddwc Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 The big department stores in the city center – especially Karstadt between central station and Karlsplatz (Stachus), and Kaufhof at Stachus –, are always worth a look for discounted items, but of course it's also a matter of luck (for instance, once I got "Woody's Roundup" for 19€ instead of ca. 50€ which made it a good parts pack). There's also a toy shop on the other side of the Stachus, and if you don't have a Toys'R'Us near you, there's one just a brick's throw away from the Oktoberfest. Though it might be a bit odd to take a big Lego set into a Wiesn tent. Quote

Though it might be a bit odd to take a big Lego set into a Wiesn tent. There are at least three department stores selling Lego within a very distance of each other and as noted above they often have great deals. The toy store beside the central McDonalds is very deceptive. It has a very large basement section. When visiting Reim Arcaden don't forget also to check out the Mueller store at the opposite end of the mall. Any time I've visited it has had a large selection of well-priced Lego including some clearance items along its back wall. If you have a car and have time, I highly recommend Legoland Gunzburg which as has been pointed out is about 70/80 minutes away on the autobahn. There is a fantastic PAB there in the 'factory' building and if I am not mistaken a discount tent. If you are flying to Munich, the last time I visited there was also a toy store across from the car rental counters - not discounted though! Edited September 5, 2011 by Dfenz Quote
Cwetqo Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Store at Karlsplatz is Obletterer. I's not so interesting for lego (standard asortiment with some discount items) but for other toys. They have the largest asortiment of toys I've ever seen in one place, including some very interesting stuff (trains, rc toys, model cars ets...). Quote
supersympa Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Thank you all for your answers! very appreciate. I will fly in the morning, will go straight to lego store and then into town. and you are right cimddwc, I won't bother bring a lego box to oktober fest tent ;) if somebody fancy a beer in town around lunch time, drop me a PM! supersympa Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Hello again, So i was in Munich this w-e, was great with Oktober fest (really hangover the next day ) anyway, I went to Lego store, Mueller, Kaufhof, Karlstad and Obletter. Did not buy too much as offers were not great. Obletter has got the farm on 35% discount (a lot of them) and kaufhof has the train 3677 for 20% discount and farms at 50% discount. at Karlstad has still have the creator house 6754 for normal price (around 59 eur) I only bought brandburg gate at lego store and the pig farm 7684 at kaufhof. I really hoped they would already have the new VW truck and the new winter post office...but no :( Quote
Cwetqo Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 LEgo Shop had nothing on Sale? I am going there in two weeks time and I hoped for some discounts. How much was 3677? 20% off would mean 120 euro. Did they had many or just few pieces? Quote
Darth Dino Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 @ supersympa: i will be there this week too. Obletter had 35% discount on Lego? Just for single sets or for a lot of different stuff (mostly excluding SW). I am actually loking for larger technic sets, 500-1000 pieces. Dino Quote
cimddwc Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Last time I checked (two weeks ago IIRC) – and ever since it became available – Kaufhof (not just in Munich) had 3677 for a few cents below 140€ with a crossed-out wrong original price of 170€ instead of 150€, pretending a higher discount (17.6%) than it actually is (6.7%). But I'd love to get it for 120€... so, supersympa, what was the actual price? Quote
Cwetqo Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 I suspected it could be something like this. There were reports about 3677 being sold for very different prices over europe. Germany should have 150 eur price, but it seems that Kaufhof at first used higher price and then "faked" 20% discount. Quote
supersympa Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 @Cwetqo Yes, Lego store had some sales on ....Toys Story...at 40 or 50%...but since i was not interested in that one i did not bothered looking at it. I really hoped they would have the winter post office or VW van...so i "only" bought the brandburg gate and some pieces on the PAB (which was very similar to the one in London westfield that I visited 2 weeks before that) @Darth Dino Obletter had ONLY one set on sale, the 7637, it was at least 10-15 of them at 49 eur. No technic discount anywhere that i can remember. @cimddwc the price was 109 or 119...I cannot remember, but i checked the price on my phone from bricklink and lego and i remember saying to myself, "That is a good deal"! and they had 5 or 6 sets available. Kaufhof also had 7684 and 7637 at 50%, but was only one left of each, so i grabbed the last 7684 ( I love those pigs ) I forgot to mention that I remember to see at mueller store a discount on a technic set, a package set, with a green tractor, for 69 or 79 eur. All the rest was normal prices. PS: I know Playmobil is german, but I was amazed to see that Playmobil corner was sometimes twice bigger than the lego corner in all those big shops! Quote
Cwetqo Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Does anybody know if VW van and Post Office available at lego shop munchen? Supaympa says no, but that information is several dayds old. I am deciding betweeen going this weekend (nice weather, but Bus and Post Office may not be there) or next weekend (bad weather, but better possibility for new sets) Quote

Cwetqo Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Thank you. I also called them and got the same info (lady said that they have A LOT of them prepared). Quote
Cwetqo Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 OK, we are back and the situation is: Lego store: Toys story Woodys roundup is 35 euro and thats it. I have never been there and see so litle discount as this time. But hey have assembled all recent exclusive sets and this also counts for something (it was strange to see that UCS imperial shuttle is bigger than new super destroyer, which is twice as expensive) Muller has large farm set dicounted, but not much (its 50 euro) Obletter has the same (I learned that its Muller owned) Kaufhof has farm sets 50% off and some other discounts as well (train station, railway crossing) snd on top of that they give 15% off if you buy three sets (they dont have to be the same), so that was the dela of the day for me. Oh, and 3677 train 140 euro, marked down from 170, as we predicted. I hope this helps someone. Quote
rm8 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Is it possible to buy in munich technik details as pick a brick? I will visit munich on 12-15 november. Do they make any sales on this period? Quote
Cwetqo Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Technic PAB - No Sales: Yes, but more likely in other shops (Muller, Kaufhof etc...) Quote
pingy Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 Hello :) maybe it helps Lego stores in Munich Best Pingy Quote
Holodoc Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 Thank you for trying to help... BUT you noted that you just revived an 8 (eight!) year old topic? @all: Please refrain from digging up old topics like this. There might be a minimal chance that the topic starter reads it, all other members didn't seem to bother. At least the last eight years. Quote
MAB Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 Given the similarity in the name and the website name and the number of posts about it, I think they were just promoting their own website. Quote
