dieselboy m Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 (edited) Hi, I'm fairly new here at Eurobricks (as you can see, I've only got 3 previous posts), but I'm not new to LEGO (I just don't spend much time in forums/message boards). I'm also no pro at making reviews, but I have done five prior to this at my blog site. This is my first set review for the year, and my first set review in nearly six months. I have tons of previous set reviews from the past few months that I haven't finished and posted yet, but I thought I'd start out the year with a review of a brand new 2009 set. This one includes a video clip, which was also my first time editing a video. So, please check it out at - http://smutoys.multiply.com/journal/item/4..._Track_Turbo_RC Thanks! Matn Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Thanks for this very nice review. I think this set is awesome, great parts and what a good RC model. It's a bit lame that there is such a big piece included, but if that's the only way to introduce the RC, than it's fine. I like it. But it's way overpriced considering its price, so I won't buy this if it costs so much. Thanks again. Quote
Brickmaster Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 This is a very cute little thing, and I think its a vast improvement over the previous RC's they came out with. I have two of the technic ones, both picked up on sale, and they're fun for awhile, but just simply not as easy to mod as something like this. This looks much better for a younger audience. Nice review, and thank you for a video - This will solve any question of its speed and maneuverability. Quote
Big Supie Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Great review. I love this little RC car. And i like the music in your video. Quote
rriggs Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I'm loving the size and scale of this - It's just asking to be minifig'd! I've got one of the previous Lego RC cars (8378 Red Beast) and it's just too big and is not really regular Lego compatible unless you're willing to build a massively complex Technic frame to build on (which I'm not!). This looks like a great size and uses lots of regular Lego parts! It is pricey but I think worth it if it's good - You gets what you pay for after all... Nice one! Cheers Rog Quote
xenologer Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Thanks for the review. eeep! 40$ is a bit much for the size... I'd be happier at 30$ Is the controller the same as the standard Power Functions one? Ie compatible? If thats the case then this set would have a higher value... Quote

This looks like a great size and uses lots of regular Lego parts! Yeah, I know the general reaction will be that this is overpriced, but I think it's pretty fair for a LEGO RC in this size. Plus, that it's in system scale and brick based, it makes it that more worth it to me. Regardless of the size of the motor/receiver unit, there's a lot of potential with this for creating vehicles for minifigs, which is the main reason I got it. Is the controller the same as the standard Power Functions one? Ie compatible? Yes, it is. Quote
xenologer Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 (edited) Thanks for the great info. Now that I think about it, having a 1-piece RC chassis isn't that bad, consider Spybotics; theirs was much less reusable. I do have one more question before I decide if I want one myself though: How strong is the steering? If you push the front wheels with your finger will it fight back with decent force, or is it weak and loose? I'm just thinking that perhaps if the steering is pretty strong it may be able to handle larger diameter wheels. Or even if that steering mechanism could be used to drive more complicated technic models, perhaps attached to a lever and used in an articulated body steering. p.s. looking closely at the review link, the 'steering adjustment' on the bottom of the chassis makes me suddenly fear it is using magnetic steering, not a strong motor with rack and pinion... Albero - BEL Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Hi, I've just bought this set to chase my cat and... I have a lot of grip problems with the floor of my apartment. Do you have any suggestion about it? maybe changing the wheels? I've tried with the ones (back ones) from this set http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=4543-1 but it didn't work at all! Help!
