cagri Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 7673 MagnaGuard Starfighter Theme: Star Wars Released: 2008 Price: 45 USD Pieces: 413 (2 minifigures) Introduction: An easy-to-build but detailed starship with two very cool figures. Could have been a little cheaper though... We only have one booklet for instructions: Without any alternate models. Parts come in polybags, there is a couple of wedges loose in the box: It would be better if the bags were numbered like in 7672. But it's ok for a set this size. Extra parts and the very cool sticker sheet: I wonder if we'll ever have some useful extra parts... Recently released parts coming with the set: Cone has a different top, bar has a thicker stop and the windscreen is awesome! Magna Droid figures looks scary: They come with a new style of cape which are secured in a cardboard as always. Shock staff is not a unique weapon: But still we get to have the new trans-purple cones. Cockpit can be opened by pushing the ball joints: The new windscreen is going be very useful in MOCs. Building in progress: A few tan and dark red parts remove the monotony. No seat on the back: Even though we have two figures there is room for only one. As always we have a lot of repeating for the wings: Everyone hates it but that's the nature of building symmetrical models. Complete model: The starship looks very nice and I loved it with all my heart. The use of strencher holders is a great detail: Torpedo type of laser guns can rotate 360 degrees. Wings can be lifted up to free the shock staffs: Uhm.. we have one droid flying but have two staffs? Opening panel on the back reveals the hidden missiles: Missiles are made of a cone and a pin with bar extension. Folder when public: Brickshelf Rating: -Figures: 8/10 Droids are great with a lot of detail, but it would be nice to have one more figure for this price. -Parts: 7/10 Lots of dark bleys, all the standart stuff. Those tan and dark reds save the variety. The windscreen is fantastic of course! -Price: 6/10 It's actually a little expensive with only two figures. 0,109 USD per part is not so good either. -Design: 8/10 I loved the final design of the model, one of the best ships I own. -Building: 8/10 There is quite a lot of detail while building this set. It's great to see how they formed the engines. -Total: 37/50 No doubt SW fans will be cramping for the droids, I think it's worth buying for the model as well. It's very nice for display too! Conclusion: I like to create space ship MOCs and Star Wars sets are a great source for the parts I need. Other than that I'm not a big fan of the series. But I may choose to display this set instead of parting it out. It looks so very lovely! Besides it's the most interesting Star Wars set in this range of price, 7674 V-19 Torrent is way overpriced. I say we have a winner! Links: Brickset Reviews Bricklink Entry Peeron Inventory Notes: -I'm sorry for the white balance problem in the pictures. I had a hard time with my camera today. Quote
Tacitus Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Once again, lovely review, but it has already been done. Quote
WhiteFang Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Once again, lovely review, but it has already been done. Although someone has done 7673 review before, but in Eurobricks, we do not restrict one set per review rule. Another reviewer/member may have a different way of presenting it and structured the review. Each reviewer has different way of viewing a certain set. Therefore, we are not encouraging ourselves from restraining our limited view/knowledge to only one review basis. In fact, we welcome more constructive reviews on the same set to share with us their views and pictures in a constructive manner. In addition, Cagri's reviews are published due to his recent graduation in Reviewers Academy. I hope it has answered part of your question which you have highlighted again and again in some of your replies, "it has already been done." Thanks. WhiteFang Quote
KimT Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Once again, lovely review, but it has already been done. As Whitefang already said: No problemo. I love getting more reviews than one per set. Also I've stated before that I'll index up to 3 reviews per set in the Review Index Thread. But that doesn't disallow more reviews being done. Thanks for the review. A very good, well written and picture sharp one if I may say so I like the Magna Guard Starfighter, though I've got no clue as to what I'm going to use the minifigs for. I am definately an OT man! Cardinal Brick Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 A good review and nicely laid out and presented, as not a big buyer of Lego Star Wars I like to read as many reviews as I can before I commit to buying something from the range. Keep up the good work. Quote
SWMAN Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 I don't think I will pick this set up. Even though 45 dollars is a good price for a set with 2 brand new figures, I am looking right now just to buy a few sets, and this is not one of them. Still, it is a great set. Quote
Tenorikuma Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 I appreciated this review, because the quality of the photos was excellent. Quote
