Auroralampinen Posted April 22 Posted April 22 Well, this idea popped in my head couple months ago. When i was bored and looked pictures of possible build ideas, and after the amazing 8043 mini excavator, i thinked, it would be nice to make another one, so i thinked, the 8071 would be nice mini build... Well, it did not happen. But the 8071 set ideas brewed, in my deepest and darkest point of my head. Until today. Today i found the 8071, at super dirt cheap price, in very good condition in my local internet flea market. So i picked up, this little ancient relic of the past to use as a retrofitting template. And in case you are wondering. Yes, i did own the 8071, when i was a little kid, but it is over 10 years ago, when i last played with the 8071. And last memories i do remember, i did build the b model forklift and played it little bit too hard, and one beam snapped. That was so sad:(. So here is idea plan. 1. Build a working fake v6 engine. 2. Make a distrubution gearbox. 3. Move the Hog knob to the roof. 4. Add a differential. 5. Swap the tires for modern truck tires. 6. Plus some other minor tweeking:). And finally. Have a lot of fun times creating this:). And the 8071, is 14 years old. So many of the retrofitting components did not exist yet. And, if i found this to be really fun to retrofit older sets into modern times. I will update this topic to cover all of my retrofitted technic builds. So have fun with this long ride:). Here is the humble beginnings, for the long ride. And some new components, which i will fit into this model somehow:). Quote
M_longer Posted April 22 Posted April 22 Those wheels have larger diameter, you need to rebuild whole model to fit them to scale. Quote
Timewhatistime Posted April 23 Posted April 23 Six parts lying on a table are a very good start. Thanks for sharing. Quote
Auroralampinen Posted April 23 Author Posted April 23 Well, now the model is complete, and i have started the first upgrade. The new truck wheels, and suprisingly they fit. And they look much better, than the original skinny-wheels:). Here is, the og model with og tires:). Quote

This is a great idea I tried something like this when I was younger but when I was moving many years ago a vandal broke into one of my storage units and set it on fire when he realized he was already caught in the act. sadly this unit contained many of my childhood items (mostly legos) and I lost 2 8071 kits one a recent gift to me, and I also lost many other kits mocs and childhood notebooks (also full of mostly lego ideas) but a few days later I found him trying to sell 2 of my notebooks full of moc instructions online and he eventually (after a court date) paid $400 for damage, and went to jail for vandalism but I never had the heart to buy another 8071 because I still have the instructions for the one I customized because I had left them on a bookshelf and they had wound up in a different unit than the one vandalized (the vandalized one was ~450 miles away) so I just bought as many of the other kits that had burned as I could afford but now seeing this moc I am already shopping for another one. Good idea though, post instructions soon? Quote

So that model instructions should be ready in about 2 weeks:). And, today i got idea to make this also type 2 compatible. So the car transporter can carry this, so this model will be my second type 2 lock compatible vehicle:). Quote
Auroralampinen Posted April 23 Author Posted April 23 Well, now the 8071 has a v6, and i cannot believe how well it fits. It feels it was meant to be here, from the first day:). Well, now i have to rework the steering system, to make room for the cardan axle:). Quote
Paul B Technic Posted April 23 Posted April 23 I do agree that those wheels do look much better, you are making some good progress with this. Paul Quote
Auroralampinen Posted April 26 Author Posted April 26 Well, after some tought process later, i have started to designing the gearbox:). Quote
