Like main building category your entry can be:

1. A new Classic-Style set
Imagine you're a designer working for the LEGO Group and you've been tasked with designing a small classic-style LEGO Pirate set.

The emphasis is building a creation that could pass as an official LEGO set.  The design could be pure classic 1989-1997 style or modern like Barracuda Bay.

But REMEMBER: these sets typically had around 30 pieces and there is no requirement to max out the 50 piece limit.

SUGGESTION:, a small set or boat set was never released for the Imperial Armada - so here's an opportunity to rectify that.

2. Modernise/Update an existing Classic set
Which small classic LEGO Pirate set could benefit from a modern makeover?

And we stress: the objective is NOT to create a full blown MOC based on an existing set!

You goal is to take the charm and simplicity of the original design and put a modern spin on it.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have already submitted a Mini Set build in the Main Building Category - can I change it to the Mini Set Category?

Yes, providing:

  • The creation is less than 50 pieces
  • You acknowledge that entry is no longer eligible to win a 10320 Edlorado Fortress

What if I have already submitted a Mini Set build in the Main Building Category but it's more than 50 pieces?
That entry can remain in the Main Building Category but you may create a second version within the 50 piece limit to submit to the Mini Set Category.

Can I submit a Value Pack containing multiple sets like Barnacle Bay?
No.  Keep it simple.  One set design per entry.

It you want to submit multiple set designs, please create a separate topic each.

My Mini Set remake contains 50+ pieces and is significantly larger/complex than the original version, can I enter that?
No. You're defeating the purpose of designing a Mini Set.

Can I submit a minifgure or parts pack?
No. While some of these sets contained less than 50 pieces the emphasis is on building a new design.

Can I submit a micro build?
No. Classic Pirate sets are minifigure scale.

Can I design a smaller version of a larger set?
Yes. Providing you're able to achieve the design within the 50 piece limit.

Do my entries have be pirate themed?
Yes.  Therefore, no Castle, Vikings, Adventurers, steampunk, etc. entries or posts, or even cross-overs.  Must be Pirates.

What does "Classic-Style" mean?

It implies a design heavily inspired by official LEGO Pirate sets, released 1989-1997, 2009-10, 2015 or 2022 Barracuda Bay.

Therefore, 4+ Pirates, Duplo Pirates and licensed themes are excluded, so no entries based on Pirates of the Caribbean, Peter Pan, etc.

This extends to figures from Fabuland, Friends, Bionicle, Galidor, etc.

Do I need a Eurobricks account?
Yes,  you may register an account here.

Can I Get Disqualified?

  • Repeatedly post in the wrong topic.
For example: ask questions in a registration topic instead of this topic.

Unless you do something exceptionally bad and then we'll keel haul disqualify yer on the spot!

Yes. Your entries can be designed in CAD software like Bricklink Studio or physically built using real LEGO.

Just ensure your renders are well presented with clear, high resolution images.

Can I make my own custom elements like sails, flags, torso designs, etc.?
Yes.

Can I  use non-authentic LEGO components?
Since the contest prize is provided by the LEGO Group ye best avoid that!

Can I submit multiple entries?

Seems tempting, but I be not sure that I am up for the task.

What do you mean you're not up to the task?

What kind of nonsense is that? :pir-grin:

Just get yer LEGO out and start playing around with some ideas and see where it takes you.

Most of me brick collection is already being used for other creations of mine... :pir-sceptic:

But, I shall indeed play around with what I have and perhaps an idea will emerge.:pir-huzzah2:

No. Your entries must be built after August 6.

Regarding this rule - My 6235 Buried Treasure remake was posted two days earlier than that, and was started in late July I think. Does this mean I can not enter it as a small set? I think there are others who also started on small sets prior to the 6th.

@Mister Phes just to clarify something, regarding the part-count of the minifigures:

Do we regard torso+arms+hands as one piece, like say on BrickLink, or we count it as it is, 5 pieces?

Same question about the legs, 1 piece as a whole assembly, or 3 pieces?

Thank you for your honesty - providing it has less than 50 pieces, it can be entered into the Mini Set Building Category.

The same as Bricklink and official LEGO sets: 1 piece as a whole assembly.

I'm sure we will do it the way Lego does the legs as one part and the torso as one.

Yes, indeed we shall. :pir-thumb:

Does this count as one?

Yes,  the set inventories count coins as one piece.

Probably because they initially arrived on a sprue...

Hello, I am Mark from Paris. Here is my 50 pieces miniset : "the jellyfish raft" As you can see, our pirate sailor ended up alone - after eating other survivors? Left alone with his crab friend, he's trying to send a message in a bottle... before some other beast eat him !?

Aye, welcome to the forum, your build is great, however, you need to go to Pirate MOCs - Eurobricks Forums and find the "new topic button" This will direct you to post your entry :)

Not to worry - I have split that post from this topic and moved it to the Pirate MOC Forum as its own topic!

Aye, no problem, I love seeing all the new members that have joined to participate in this contest :) :pir-triumph:
