No news on it yet but since it was an IDEAS set I can see it being re-released considering the similar Ship in a Bottle and Saturn V were released a second time but with different set numbers!! Fingers crossed, I feel that they could benefit from this and take advantage of the El Dorado Fortress!

I've been wondering about this too. It had an incredibly short run for such a large set, and it was unavailable for many months before just being removed from the site entirely.

Personally, I'd like to see them just release a similar ship at a lower price point and remove all of the island stuff. Maybe they could do the Skull's Eye Schooner next.

It would be funny if they did rerelease POBB because that would mark the third time they've rereleased that set.

I'd also prefer to see a new ship rather than a re-release. A new, different rocket probably wouldn't sell as well as the Saturn V re-release, but they have much more freedom here.

… that was my point we talked about before.

Agreed with jodawill, would have bought the ship alone (at lower price, though with TLG greedflation the whole set was a steal looking back). You guys may remember the survey they ran on “membership”. One option was to say one wanted access to retired sets. If it ever sees the light of day, PoBB or other sets, I wonder if all the prices will be jacked up).

That was a very vaguely written possibility though and wasn't clear what it really meant - selected sets of their choice, or any set of an individual's choice, or modern remakes of retired/vintage sets. It may well be that is partly where the idea of remakes came from.

Not gonna lie, it would be VERY cool if LEGO brought it back. It really is an outstanding model in both its "hideout" and "ship" forms. I dunno what the likelihood is by any means, but the previous Ideas re-releases suggest it's not totally out of the question.

Barracuda Bay is admittedly somewhat more reliant on specialized molds (e.g. ship hulls, minifig accessories, etc) than the Ship in a Bottle or Saturn V Rocket were. But from what I can tell, none of those molds have been absent from new sets for long enough that I'd have doubts about them still being usable/available.

Mind you, a totally new classic Pirates inspired ship could also be very cool in its own right. But at the same time, I know a lot of people are eager for a new imperial ship of some kind, and I personally feel the likelihood of them doing that would be much stronger if there's recently been a pirate ship and/or hideout set for it to do battle with.

And if LEGO were to release another pirate ship and/or hideout set before Eldorado Fortress gets retired, a Barracuda Bay re-release might be easier to fit into that release schedule than a totally new design (since the design process is already completed and a lot of its elements are still in production).

If they do rerelease Skulls Eye Schooner I hope they give it the same treatment as they have all other Icons sets, bigger/better/larger.

One of the reasons I abstained from Barracuda Bay was I felt I wasn't getting something significantly better than the Black Seas Barracuda. Apart they looked like two really incomplete sets and together it looked nice but did not have the wow factor for me. Especially since I think they really dropped the ball on the original ideas design, which was far better IMO.

There was a guy on youtube though who did a step by step of putting two PoBB sets together to get a bigger/fuller ship and a better island at the same time, and by the time I discovered that video the set had already been retired.

"Jacked up" is one way of putting it, but I think if Lego were to release any set from before 2005 again exactly as was, it would inevitably come at a premium. (Obviously this doesn't apply to PoBB)

The older sets have obviously got a lot of discontinued moulds and in some cases discontinued colours that would need to be revived. The Black Seas Barracuda, for example, would need to have about 100 pieces reintroduced even making allowances for where the moulds have been updated (eg. the grooves at the top of 1x1 cones) and five lost colours restored.

I see this argument all the time, but then people complain about bigger sets costing so much.
The controversy over the price pointing of lion knights castle and sales figures actually harms classic themes.

Id be lying if I said I didn’t buy POBB purely for the boat build, however I think it looks great in both builds, as the bay and as the boat.
The ideas set deserves kudos for inspiring what came but a boring brown blob with zero fun factor isn’t even close to the final product.

Is that so? Do you know the sales figures? And how could a controversy harm the classic themes? If anything, TLG may consider bringing some medium priced sets again. However, I personally think that the large expensive sets do indeed sell well enough, regardless of a few people complaining.

Well the target audience that makes the majority of the companies income probably wouldn’t come from larger sets due to price per piece ratio. That and the majority of the larger sets coming with 4 pages of sticker sheets while $10 friends set come with full printed pieces has implications too.
Getting away from the discussion here though.

Larger sets underperforming would be a huge blow to the company producing any more sets in that theme, especially from a business stand point.

I’d prefer lego bite the bullet and produce new things rather than nostalgia bait remakes ever 5 years.

Neither the Lion Knight's Castle, nor Eldorado Fortress has any stickers at all, and show me one Friends set without a sticker sheet.

I meant larger sets generally have huge sticker sheets, all the massive ninja go sets, stranger things etc.

The price point per part is still higher for small to medium range kits is all I meant, meaning that larger kits pose a bigger risk if they don’t meet sale’s expectations.

Smaller sets having all printed pieces isn't actually that uncommon. The main reasons for that are that small sets are produced and sold in higher quantities than large sets (getting more "bang" for the buck of introducing a unique print), and that if a set only needs a few decorations, the savings from having them shared on a single sticker sheet as opposed to printing them isn't as large as with, say, a set like a Ninjago City set that needs hundreds of decorations.

This! Whether or not a set uses stickers has more to do with how many unique/set-specific decorations it needs than its size. Hence why The Office has an extensive sticker sheet, but many larger Ideas sets not based on specific IP can get by with printing alone. The former exhausted a lot of its budget for printed pieces on over 20 uniquely printed minifig parts and accessories, and so had to use stickers for all the other decorations based on specific on-screen details. By contrast, a non-licensed Ideas set like Pirates of Barracuda Bay or the A-Frame Cabin requires far fewer unique decorations for either its minifigures OR other parts of the build.

Although I already have it, I would like it to be available again so buy one and keep it boxed. But I'd rather LEGO focus on rebooting 6286 Skull's Eye Schooner or 10210 Imperial Flagship.

I dn’t know, man. I mean, I would like to see a NEW in-house Pirates-focused theme.

But i would like to see PoBB to be re-released or re-made or rebooted whatever you say.

Sadly, kids don't seem to be interested in pirates and knights these days, and kids are needed to get the volumes to motivate a full theme, so nostalgia bait is probably all we're going to get for the foreseeable future.

I'm perfectly fine with one adult targeted large set every year or two, I'd just like a little more variety.

A faction neutral merchant ship would be real cool, for example.

This would be incredible.

I was hoping for trading post instead of Eldorado, but with the inclusion of the boat and the long set arrangement I’m afraid lego know they won’t be remaking it.

Sure, but we had Nexo Knights and we have Ninjago. So why not a high-tech pirate? Or a fantasy pirates? Something new and original.

But i get that we want nostalgia set s for adults.
