firefabric Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 Here is my latest finished MOC, K.I.T.T from the Knight Rider TV show in 8-wide Speed Champions style. It's of course a 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, modified with self-driving, nano- and AI technology (far ahead of the primitive Tesla system, already in the 80's). I remember making many Lego KITT versions as a kid watching the show, so it was really interesting to build one now after all the development in Lego bricks and techniques. I suppose this fits in the Licensed forum as Lego has made a small Knight Rider set in the Dimensions theme. It also features a 'working' front scanner, implemented using the Lego light brick. The light brick is surprisingly compact (2x4 brick with 1 1/3 height) so it fits under the hood without issues. The scanner is switchable on/off from the cockpit using the gear change lever. The KITT utilizes a few parts from the new Pagani Utopia Speed Champions set, mainly the wheels. It's the first set where the newer style molded wheels come in a lighter rim color, so with a 2-diameter black dish as a hubcap, they are quite close the original. Another part I used from the Pagani set is the new 2023 chassis piece, it has a lower floor by 1 plate compared to the old one, and for the KITT, it enables to fit the Michael Knight minifigure inside (with the hair and all). The car can be built using the old chassis piece as well, but then the Michael minifigure will have to lose it's hair... I have also created instructions for it, if you are interested they are available at Rebrickable: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-144934/firefabric/knight-rider-kitt-1982-pontiac-trans-am/ Thanks! Feuer Zug Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 Good work on KITT. Having the light brick in the engine bay is a perfect touch. The rear window is well executed too. Quote

Somehow initially I didn't even consider to use the light brick as I imagined it would be too big, but then I happened to actually look at it and realized it's only 2x4 and might be possible to fit. The rear window is coincidentally what inspired this build initially, I was looking at my completed 'Bandit' Trans Am which uses the same rear window glass, and I started to think if it would be possible to make the 80's Firebird in a similar way. In the end though, the window glass piece is the same but otherwise it has a totally different technique to attach it. The cars do share a few similarities (they are of course different year models of the same car in reality also), for example for both cars the rear end is constructed as a separate section. Quote
