artemisovsky Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 (edited) Recently, due to lack of motivation to do something useful, I tried to rebuild mini set 42148 Snow Groomer. The result is 16 alternative models (sorry for the lack of real photos): Short description of functions (order by creation time): 1. Tractor - working and detachable lawnmower trailer 2. Tank - turret rotating, cannon lifting and openable tailgate 3. Racer - based on 42095 set, no functions other than rolling tracks 4. Robot - adjustable arms, head and mouth 5. Dumper - raising bed 6. Forklift - elevated forks and pallet 7. Loader - forest machine (similar to 42094 set) with elevated arm and working grabber 8. Bulldozer - movable blade and adjustable ripper 9. Road Roller - steering 10. Skid Steer Loader - tracked telehandler with elevated arm, movable forks and 2 liftable accessories 11. Road Grader - HoG steering, blade turning and openable engine cover 12. Catapult - working shooting mechanism 13. Monotrack - no functions other than rolling track 14. Hamster Wheel - rotated wheel with knob 15. Dragster - openable cabin and retractable support for faking wheelies 16. Half-Track Tractor - folding and detachable field sprayer All models, even the less successful ones, have free high quality pdf instructions at rebrickable. Maybe because that's a nice looking one that not falls into the typical construction vehicle category. Other nice ones are the dumper, dozer and the roller. Quote
A_Forest_of_Lego Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 That's so cool! I can't believe how many awesome designs you could build with just the same pieces! Quote
Kostq Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 And I thought the set was "exhausted" after your 8th one. Keep going, I want to see more stuff out of it! Quote
johnnytifosi Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 Awesome job! I'm intrigued by the bulldozer, do you think it would be possible to lift the front blade using the steering arm piece, in a similar way to the snow groomer? I'll give it a shot myself when I get this set. And that dragster... damn talk about imagination lol. Have you actually built it or is it only a render? I can't fathom how these chains stay in place like that. Quote

I don't know if you realize that you inspired me to made this track wheel: Haven't seen solution to fit link tread into pin hole before I built your 8835 studless forklift. Is that you idea or did you see it used in someone else creation? 12 hours ago, A_Forest_of_Lego said: That's so cool! Unfortunately after creating several variants, next builds repeat similar scheme and it's getting harder to invent something new. 12 hours ago, GTS said: And I thought the set was "exhausted" after your 8th one. Waiting for your steam locomotive alt for this set - that would be a challenge. 11 hours ago, Maaboo35 said: Grader's my fave. Thanks. My favorites are roller, telehandler and dragster. It's good that everyone likes something different, otherwise Lego would only release car sets... Oh wait, right now it's happening that anyway 24 minutes ago, johnnytifosi said: Awesome job! Yes, I built dragster and already someone shared a photo on rebrickable. I'm not sure if this is legal connection between link treads and beams. Quote
Axadder Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 I could even have difficulties to build just one more, but you created nothig but 16 more! I still get surprised every day. Quote

Good thing they managed to sidestep that landmine. 6 hours ago, artemisovsky said: Oh wait, right now it's happening that anyway Oh, right. Quote

Never liked the bulky solution of the other classic forklift 8835 Edited January 30, 2023 by GerritvdG fixed links Quote

Thanks for the answer. I really didn't expect this solution was applied in official set, even though it's no longer used. Quote

However, think I exaggerated a bit with the number of alternative builds. This definitely makes it harder for others to come up with their own ideas for rebuilding this little set - at least that's my impression. Quote
