Kalhiki Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 A simple question: Do you prefer boxes that are taped shut, or those that have punch-tabs. Personally, I vote tape. Occasionally, I like to keep the boxes, and when they're taped shut, I can easily break them down by slicing the tape on either end. Quote
Lyichir Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 Taped is my preference, though it's not a super strong preference. I like being able to keep the boxes, but I do it more out of habit than anything else these days, so despite punch tabs impacting the condition of the box more, rougher condition doesn't majorly affect me. If all set boxes were punch tab it'd be a let down, but as it is the larger boxes tend to be taped, and those are the ones where keeping them in good condition matters more to me (since when I do use the boxes for storage I tend to consolidate them into the larger boxes). dr_spock Posted July 7, 2022 Posted July 7, 2022 Tape. It's easier to cut with my knife. Punch needs more slices with my knife. I don't use the punch tabs to open them. Quote
Darkdragon Posted July 7, 2022 Posted July 7, 2022 If buying at Walmart I prefer punch because it's much more difficult to reseal correctly if they buy/empty/return the set. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted July 7, 2022 Posted July 7, 2022 I don't really care either way, I flatten and recycle my boxes (or re-use card for projects). The punched ones are useful in that I can peel off the back panel and tip parts into the open box, but a tray is just as handy. I would like it if certain box front designs could be posters. I love the new 90 years creator set and a poster/tinplate of that would be cool. Quote
TeriXeri Posted July 7, 2022 Posted July 7, 2022 (edited) For boxes I keep after building , which are few, like Barracuda Bay, I prefer taped. The other boxes I keep are of an entirely different type and mostly open up like a chest, so those are kept for function, not for looks. Edited July 7, 2022 by TeriXeri Quote
Mylenium Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 I don't care much one way or the other, since I'm not a collector. I keep a few of the boxes around if I can salvage them and flatten them out, but overall it doesn't matter too much to me. For most sets punch tabs are just fine since I'll throw away the box, anyway. Sometimes it would be nice if LEGO made more use of actual lid boxes that can be opened and closed properly like on some Architecture and DOTs sets or recently the City Mission sets. That would facilitate temporary storage when building larger projects since I sometimes don't come back to them for days or weeks even after having finished a step. Mylenium Quote
Yperio_Bricks Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 I recylce boxes and instruction so it doesn't really matter to me, but i have to say, opening punch-tab boxes is much more fun, so i prefer these. "Take this punch you box and gimme the Lego!" Quote
