jus1973 Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 I’m braced for backlash on this one…… I think this years advent calendar, and perhaps the last years too, have concentrated too much on the miniature city builds, like the hospital, fire station and car wash!?! And the small scale vehicles too. I used to like the fireplaces, and cookie stalls etc, which now seem the preserve of the friends calendar, which my wife has. These fed into my MOD/MOC box, for expansion of my growing town. Am I alone in this feeling…… ? Quote
Jack Sassy Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 Nay, you're not alone. I really enjoy earlier City Advent Calendars from 2000s for nostalgia's sake, while they clearly are missing festive builds (with snow). I think best ones had to be from 2010 - 2018 (at least). Hopefully this new trend will change soon. Some of my favourites: Looking at it now, 2019 Advent Calendar wasn't that bad, it had some cool things in it, I suppose: Quote

Really helpful to illustrate my thinking, and Yep. I think 2019 wasn’t to bad but 2020 and 2021 have been a lot less inspiring. Quote
TeriXeri Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 (edited) 100% agree, I only ever got the 2018 and 2019 Calendar (I only started collecting City in 2018) and the 2019 Calendar was great, and older ones looked even better. 2018 wasn't bad as it was my first one, but it still has a lot more microbuild/toys compared to 2019. I wish LEGO would do Castle/Pirate Calendars again, but can't compare 2009/2010 to now, currently there are 5 calendars this year , Friends(2012-now)/Star Wars(2011-now)/Marvel(2021)/Harry Potter(2020-now) being added as calendar themes 2022 still is a LEGO City Adventures year, but I hope it's not the same microscale for a 3rd year in a row. Friends had some different types of calendars, with mixing up minidoll/microdoll scale builds like this year, and christmas tree ornaments other years. Edited December 23, 2021 by TeriXeri Quote
