Hey guys - whats up?

I just started getting into the Batman LEGO theme and expect to receive the Arkham Asylum set I ordered off eBay tomorrow or Saturday.

I wanted to give my villains some firepower and manpower in the form of henchmen but I just wanted to toss around some ideas and get some suggestions first.

For the Riddler I was either going to simply use the Riddler minifig without the hair piece as his henchmen or take off the headpiece and replace the torso with a plain green one. I'm not sure what would look better but that sounds like something the Riddler would do with his henchmen.

As for the other villains - well I'm kinda stumped and thats why I'm here making this topic. lol.

Any help is appreciated. I'm just looking to beef up my villains and displays so it looks like maybe this once evil will have a shot a winning.

Thanks,

Tyler

Hi Iceman. Welcome to EB :classic:

I understand that henchman do beef up the display quite a bit. As a big Batman collector myself I'd say the following is good:

Catwoman: None, she doesn't need a henchman

Killer Croc: Probably none, but you could try and give him a generic gangster like gang.

Two-Face: The henchman from the Batmobile set. Do you have him? Well, once/if you do, you could create copy decals to put on other white minifigs to give him a lot of henchman, or just two

Joker: I'm all for the plain purple shirted one, but I think they really look get if you "clown" them up. For instance give them purple exo-force hair.

Penguin: I have three Penguins, so I find a great way for henchman is to use Pengy's torso on normal black legs with a different face.

Mr.Freeze: Here is where I'm stumped, though Mr.Freeze doesn't often have followers, maybe bricklink those winter jacket pieces?

Riddler: I think his torso could work, but with a different face definitely.

Scarecrow: A nightmarish gang would look great with those pumpkin heads he has.

That's all I've got for now, hope that helped!

Batbrick Away!

Batbricks got quite a few listed, one that's in the Arkham set that Batbrick forgot to mention was Ivy, I'm thinking basically an array of brick built plant enemies (sorta in the same vein as the mini penguins with Penguin) could work well, as I think she worked alone or occaisonally with Harley (I think, I'm not a big Batman nut)

It's a pity we didn't get a bit more 'Dark Knight' influence with the Tumbler set. I would have loved for the Joker henchman to have come with a clown face like the movie trailers show, although at least now it matches with the Batwing set I guess.

As for Mr Freeze, I think the winter jackets could work great. Another alternative is perhaps the old Space Ice guys (sorry I can't remember the faction name) the torso's from that set might work well, especially with the oxygen tanks on their backs.

I could see the Riddler henchmen in plain green torso's to be honest, as I think if all the henchmen had the ? torso then the Riddler wouldn't look like the leader as much as he'd blend in a little bit. I dunno though, I'd need to see a bunch together to make a final opinion.

Batbrick thanks for the welcome!

I was hoping you would reply to this as I have seen some of your exceptional work. Your thoughts, insights, and comments are always welcome to me.

Catwoman: I agree you with you - none needed.

Killer Croc: I see him more as hired muscle but I really like his character for some reason. He'll get some fodder evantually when I think of a good theme for them. Maybe I'll throw in a couple of crocodiles in his display, lol.

Two-Face/Joker: I like the henchmen that they come with so they'll do for now plus they're plenty of them on bricklink. In the future I will be taking your advice and spicing up Joker's.

Penguin: I'll all about his henchmen. Once I get big into this I'm going to try and piece together as many of them as possible.

Mr. Freeze: I'm still looking for suggestions for him. I can only find these Planet Ice minifigs on bricklink and they will look completely stupid next to him. There has to be a plain minifig in a parka or snow jacket out there.

Riddler: Batbrick and Big T - Both of your ideas are great and its kinda left me unsure as to what to do. I guess I need to find a good head and then the rest will come together. I'm definitely not using the old LEGO standby smilie face because it will look ridiculous. If either of you could throw some pics together that would be fantastic.

Scarecrow: I think you have an awesome idea Batbrick and its the one I'm most excited about. Those pumpkin heads will look great on some plain brown bodies armed with some pitchforks.

God my girlfriend is going to be so mad at me when she sees how much I'm going spend on bricklink, lol.

So yeah, I'm getting my first ever LEGO set (since I was a kid) in the couple of days and I'm pretty pumped about getting the Arkham Asylum. What would be the next great set to get?

For your next set, I guess since you're still new to the Batman Lego world it all depends on what you're after exactly. If you're using Bricklink, then every villan is pretty much available at the tips of your fingers, so set quality is probably what you're after. I would sat the Two Face/Batman set would be a great start, as you get the Batmobile, as well as an extra henchman. If you can get the Bane/Riddler/Battank set cheap enough, that imo is a great scene set for displays, and again you'd get the extra Riddler torso if you wanted to go with the Henchmen ? torso's...

But why limit yourself to Batman lego? Once you're in, you might as well take a deep plunge into the world of lego. There are some great city sets which you could use for display's, and plenty of other sets which you could utlilise for pieces and such (And we'll chant "One of us" lol)

The good thing about Bricklink is you choose to browse the different heads available, and one might pop up that you really like and you could go from there (in regards to the Riddler henchmen issue).

As for Mr Freeze, It might be a case of him going solo for now (sounds like you'll need to let your cash flow build up...and your girlfriend calm down  ) and then maybe something else will show itself.

In most points I agree with Batbrick. )

I also think that Catwoman needs none/ You can give her a bunch of lego cats, but that's really comical! )

Killer Croc also needs no henchmen. He's strong without them anyway.

As for Two-Face there can be two suggestions  : 1) Use his henchmen from Batmobile set, 2) Give him a ganster band, as he has sometimes in comics....

Joker: I'm all for the plain purple shirted one, but I think they really look get if you "clown" them up. For instance give them purple exo-force hair.

Exactly my thoughts! That is starting to frighten me.... )

But another version is also appropriate here^ give his goons plain white and black torsos, makind kind of mimes of tem, as they appear in TNBA(?). :sweet:

My henchmen are mechanical penguins! )))) And speaking serriously, I suggest you should use tuxedo torsos for the henchmen. Torsos are from paradisa waiters, if you remember. As for me, I have Raven and Doris minifigures. I gues, I posted them somewhere here.... )

For Mr.Freeze I use winter jacket pieces but they don't really look well, in my opinion.... )

Scarecrow.... Well he's tricky :sceptic: , but I guess that Batbrick's idea with pumpkins is the best! ) :classic:

Good day, gentlemen! ) :sweet:

Catwoman: None, she doesn't need a henchman

Unless you're in the mood for some 60s. In the TV Series, she had several henchmen, all wearing tiger print and those ridiculous ears...

Mr.Freeze: Here is where I'm stumped, though Mr.Freeze doesn't often have followers, maybe bricklink those winter jacket pieces?

He does sometimes. They tend to have to wrap up warm, so as to manage in his refrigerated hideouts.

Welcome to Eurobricks, IceMan. It's always good to see another BatFan here. There have been several good suggestions already, but I'll go ahead and share what I've done for henchmen.

Catwoman: None. But my version does have her black cat Isis.

Killer Croc: None, but if you make a hideout for him a crocodile pet would work.

Two-Face: Given his obssesion, I give him just two henchmen at a time using modified thugs from the Batmobile set. For the first set of goons, one was light flesh and one was dark flesh. I've also made minifig versions of Min and Max, the twins from BTAS.

Joker: Like Batbrick suggested I've "clowned up" the fig from the Batwing set, but not with Exo-Force hair. I use the two face painted Islander heads from the Pirate theme and call them Punch and Judy.

Penguin: My Penguin is accompanied by Jay, Lark and Raven, his henchwenches from BTAS. They use the tuxedo/waiter torso with black hips and light flesh legs.

Mr. Freeze: I actually found henchmen for Freeze rather easy to create. I use the generic fig from the Batcave set and switch out the knit cap for an Arctic hood piece in blue.

The Riddler: The riddler has several options. 1)Custom make his henchwenches from the comic books, Echo and Query. 2)Make the LEGO type of henchman as has been suggested using a plain green torso. 3)Make the kind of henchmen from the recent 'The Batman' cartoon - The Riddler torso with green hands, green legs and hips and an all green head (you'd just have to customize some white eyes on the head).

Scarecrow: I haven't gotten around to making any henchmen for him yet (funny since he's one of my favorite villians), but I think Batbrick has a good idea about using the pumpkin heads.

Poison Ivy: She needs plant/men hybrids. I make mine using the Endor Luke Skywalker torso (unfortunately expensive and hard to come by nowadays) with sandgreen arms, hands, hips and legs. For the head use the HP mandrake heads from last years Hogwarts set.

Bane: None.

Harley Quinn: Mostly she hangs with Joker. And when he kicks her out she pals around with Ivy. But when she had her own comic she actually assembled her own gang. They were all male and dressed exactly like Harley except no facepaint and they each had a number (1-5) one their backs. They were called the Quintets. I'm hoping to eventually get enought Harley minifigs to make my own Quintet gang.

Bonus Fig:

Black Mask:b] LEGO hasn't made a Black Mask fig yet, but it's really easy. Use a dark suit torso with white hands(gloves) and a black skeleton head. For henchmen make the generic LEGO type with black torso and use the HP deatheater head (the doublesided Lucius Malfoy one).

So yeah, I'm getting my first ever LEGO set (since I was a kid) in the couple of days and I'm pretty pumped about getting the Arkham Asylum. What would be the next great set to get?

I hope you have your Arkham Asylum by now - it's a great set. As for what to get next? I think Big T had a good suggestion with the Batmobile set. The main Batvehicle with a great villian; it's hard to go wrong with that one.

I agree with Batbrick's listings but I must remark on the Mr. Freeze section. He actually came with a follower in the Batcave set, a man wiht a blue shirt and a machine gun. This was a Mr. Freeze henchman unless it was the Penguin's, who already had three little penguins.

Actually we are trying to suggest better henchmen than the ones given

I agree with The Brick Rat that the Batmobile is totally the next set to get, Two-Face should be bought second and he is also a plain awesome villain, the second best after Joker, but that doesn't mean he isn't two awesome. Then I reckon the Batcave, those three sets in my opinion are that absolute essentials.

I would also agree with The Brick Rat on the mandrake heads for plantmen, I wish I had some as they are great. Good luck!

Brick Rat - thanks for taking the time out to give such detailed help. Actually thanks everyone for all their help. Your suggestions and advice are just fueling my love for this Batman theme.

Catwoman: Agreed for none.

Killer Croc: I like the pet crocodile idea. I also wanna recreate on of the LEGO Batman preview scenes with him riding a large crocodile. lol.

Two-Face: I'm going to use the generic thugs for right now but I intend on using your idea in the future.

Joker: Do you have any pics of your custom thugs for him? I'd love to see them! Also going to use his generic thugs until I can make them more clown-like.

Penguin: Although I like your suggestions I'm going to keep the penguin minifigs as his henchmen. Penguins are my favorite animals and those things are just super cool.

Mr. Freeze: My favorite Bat villain and I didn't know LEGO deemed him worthy of generic henchmen! I'm definitely going to stock up on these as well as Artic hoods. Can't wait to get my hands on his new set.

The Riddler: Going with the generic henchmen head with either the Riddler torso or generic green torso. Still haven't decided yet.

Scarecrow: The pumpkin head with a plain brown body is a winner for me. Can't wait to set them up. I'm thinking of buying the Skeleton Carriage from the Castle line to mod for him.

Poison Ivy: Absolutely genius. Expensive to piece together but an awesome innovation none the less. Ivy is the least of my favorites here so she will have to wait till the end.

Bane: Agreed with none. He will be thuggin' it up with someone else tho.

Harley Quinn: None she will be grouped with Joker and his henchmen.

Black Mask: I'm making Black Mask with white hands, the tux torso and the black skeleton head. I'm going to check out the head you suggested for his henchmen and get back to you.

Ra's Al Ghul: I hope to see a minifig of him in 2009. His henchmen will be ninjas. Lots of ninjas. League of Shadows. lol.

Let's keep the ideas rolling! Any advice or suggestions are happily accepted!

Thanks,

Tyler

Batbrick,

I agree with you and I'm eBaying the Batmobile as we speak. How can you not wanna get the coolest Batman vehicle ever? I plan on making a mod like the Penguin has to make it a two-seater once I get the parts. Plus I agree that Two Face is quite the awesome villian but then again there are barely any bad rogues in the Batman gallery.

The Batcave is going to be a handful because of how expensive it is everywhere I've looked. It's been over a $100 everywhere I've looked.

I'm getting to see that LEGO is a very expensive hobby but I love the fact that you can feel so accomplished after you finish building something.

Lego can be expensive, especially a licensed series like Batman, but the great equaliser is if you can't afford a set, you can just make your own!

I'd love the Batcave myself, but again cash/money is an issue. I need to stock up on some Batsets actually... I'll probably be getting the Tumbler/Ice cream truck and resizing the Tumbler
