Hi all, I'm new to Eurobricks and new to Lego Ideas. I've recently submitted my first project called Retro Arcade. I'm wanting to know from your own experiences the top 5 places to promote your project?

Why not? People who promotes their projects on here usually gets more supporters than usual.

Because there are site guidelines.

They asked about promoting an IDEAS submission, not posting a MOC and discussing it. This is the thread for
people that want to come, promote IDEAS and go ...

Eurobricks can be a great place to post your projects, as long as you make it about the model and don't just scream "vote for me".

Brickset occasionally does articles highlighting Lego Ideas projects that have caught their eye, you can contact them but the project has to be something really stunning for them to take notice of. If you can get one, a shout-out by them is good for maybe 1000 votes.

Other than that, there are several Lego-building groups on facebook, try finding one that is relevant. Again, focus on the sharing the model and ask for votes almost as an afterthought to avoid annoying people. You can also try seeing if similar things exist on Twitter. I think there are also some Lego Ideas groups on Reddit?

Also, having just looked for your project on Lego Ideas - congratulations on getting 4000 votes already!!! Very impressive model, you got my vote too!

Many thanks for your reply, it’s all new to me so any advice is very welcome 😊 I’ve messaged Brickset to see if I get a reply, thanks for that. I’m happy to do a post about the project and not ask for votes if that helps, where abouts on here would I start a post about it, and where is the best place to host the photos as I think I read you can’t add any on here, many thanks 😊

You'll want to find the subforum most relevant to your MOC. Since it's an arcade, unless it's based on a license I don't recognise I guess the Town subforum would be the place (though no doubt someone will correct me on this). Then just start a thread there - make it about the MOC, of course. You might need to have at least ten comments to start a thread (and thus be ranked as a Vassal) - I can't say this for certain, as I passed that threshold well before I tried to start a topic.

As for hosting the images, I'd personally vouch for Imgur. If you upload the images through your account, you have the option to mark them as private, so they wouldn't just show up for random people browsing the Imgur homepage without context.

In the appropriate themed forum of the subject matter of the build. Assuming for a moment that its an arcade building, then it'd probably go in the Town forum. Image hosting: Flickr, Bricksafe.

You can use flickr and bricksafe like mentioned above. You can also use this direct link to host your image: https://ideascdn.lego.com/media/generate/lego_ci/dfd77c59-08a2-4df0-a26f-3efce0f1f70d/resize:800:450/native

Considering how fast your project is gathering support, I honestly think you could get to 10k supporters without any type of promoting.  You've got my vote!

Why don't you learn a bit about the community first before posting about your IDEAS submission. Same as at Brickset. There is a specific thread in the forum that you will learn about if you become a member and learn about the community there.

My earlier answers was because many people just wanting to promote themselves / their idea don't really care about the community, wherever it is. They just want to promote an idea and never visit again.

I'll drop my two pennies worth here:

EB is not a billboard, so if you take the time to be a part of the community you are likely to have more support from members. As others have said; Make a MOC thread in the correct location of the Forum, tells us a bit about it and then mention that it is a project on Ideas. Putting VOTE FOR MY IDEAS MOC in the thread title, the first paragraph or even before any photos/renders is a big no no.

We often have projects dumped in by passing "members" who are doing the digital equivalent of flyposting, and like any owners of a space who don't really want to be an advertising board, we remove them. However, more recently I created a thread where the least efforts get put.

So, share something with thought in the presentation and be a part of the community and support will come from EB members. I think other places that are suited to more Drop and Run posts are Instagram, Facebook, TikTok etc.

For photo hosting: Flickr is popular and I have also found that Imgur is useful to. You can upload them there and simply paste the permalink of the image into a forum post to deeplink the image.

I hope you find succes.

Since you have a youtube channel with 211K subscribers, I think just posting there would already get you enough supports. If you want to get supporters faster, post it on instagram/twitter/flickr. :classic:

Hope this helps.

thanks for your reply, I do have a video on my channel but very little response, I think the majority of the subscribers are parents of kids who just want to watch brickfilms, the supporters need to come from AFOLs ideally 👍

Why does one join EB; that's what @MAB is getting at. The intentions of members are often transparent as everyone's post history is public.

If a member demonstrates that they only joined to promote their own things, they never comment in other people's builds, they're never seen offering support in anyone else's MOC threads, they almost never participate in discussions and scarcely venture outside the confines of the threads that they created that's seen as selfish. They're just here for self promotion and not to participate in the Lego/EB community. They want responses, comments, praise and support for themselves but do not offer the same to anyone else. They want everyone else to support their Ideas submission or MOCs but they don't do the same for others. Other members ask questions but they're not here to help anyone.

That's simply not leg godt.

Well said, I'm new so don't have that much history. I do want to post my project but I'll only post that once and not ask for votes. I'm interested to see what other topics come up and happy to help where I can :-)

Yeah, welcome aboard! I was just elaborating on what others were getting at and not implying anything here. Its a lot of fun to get out there and see what other builders from around the world are doing. And by showing support, encouraging others and helping out when you can it builds up  this thing we all enjoy.

Like you'll definitely see @MAB and @JintaiZ all over the place, they are everywhere all over showing support, participating, helping out and answering questions and just participating in discussion. Its fantastic.

Congratulations on getting front-paged, this sure would help a lot!

You could also add your project link on your profile under website URL.

I'm still not seeing it on your profile. Click Edit Profile first and then add the link.
