Polarlicht Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 (edited) Post your 42122 mods here. I have added the steering and 4x4 based on the idea form @Zerobricks. But also added RC stuff (small motor, servo, IR and recharchable battery) It is not done yet, the rear axle is only a placeholder, iam waiting on parts for that (ball joint and socket like front axle has). Rechareable battery box will go on top of the servo / behind the IR reciever! The small driving motor sits under the hood and has a small gear reduction from an 8 tooth to a 24 tooth gear. Then it goes through 4 16 tooth gears (red one spins free for steering to go through), to both axles. The servo sits in the back (also backwards) it steers only the front axle with 4 universal joints going through the chassis from back to front. Edited January 8, 2021 by Coolusername Quote
amorti Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Is it not possible to squeeze an L motor in? Then you could lose that first reduction and clean up the cabin. Quote
Polarlicht Posted January 9, 2021 Author Posted January 9, 2021 Maybe with some more modification. Because it needs to go in sideways with the flat sides of the L motor on top and bottom so the hood closes and it wont touch the steering gear, which it alrady does with the current M motor. Suspension still works but that gear pushes the motor up a bit when you compress both front axle sides at the same time. Its fine when only one wheel is compressed, since the steering gear is in line with the suspension pivot point (big ball joint). Of course you can make the chassis on beam higher and have more clearance for a bigger motor. Quote
amorti Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 (edited) It wouldn't be unusual for such a vehicle to have a lift kit fitted. It'll be a small gain, but putting the M motor with the studs up would give a little extra clearance at the bottom, assuming the hood still closes. I think an L motor is better if it fits, just to lose that reduction inside the cabin but also the benefit of moar powah! Edited January 9, 2021 by amorti Quote

Do you mean the anti studs downwards with that? Like i said the steering gear touches the motor, or maybe has 1 mm in between. It would still fit, but i don't want that gear hitting those anti studs and lock up. The topside of the motor is smooth, so the gear won't catch on anything. Still not the best solution (iam not great when building with technic, more a system guy myself) but it works... Quote
Polarlicht Posted January 11, 2021 Author Posted January 11, 2021 Some more pics. I tried the L motor but the 3x5L beamns (with grille print) hit it, so i can't use it without even more mods. Gone back tho the M motor. Raised suspension by one "stud" or beam to have about 5mm between motor and steering gear. Added some parts to the "poor mans" rear axle, still waiting for balljoint and socket from Bricks and Pieces... Quote
Polarlicht Posted January 30, 2021 Author Posted January 30, 2021 (edited) Finally the parts order arrived, so i added the ball and socket pieces and the new diffs to get a better ratio for offroading. Also added a rear diff-lock. To unlock it, i just remove one 20tooth gear off the assembly and put it on the red pin on the roof. Front facia is now straight due to shock absorber- and L motor attachment reasons... Edited January 30, 2021 by Coolusername Quote
chlego Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 You just redesigned the whole drivetrain/chassis, didn't you? Quote

Yeah, based on Zerobrick's build, but with RC and different bits here and there. Now if this isn't a mod and improvement, to the original set, then i don't know what :D Quote
Polarlicht Posted January 31, 2021 Author Posted January 31, 2021 (edited) Some videos of driving in snow with it. https://imgur.com/fSjV0ZJ https://imgur.com/3KIdp8W Edited January 31, 2021 by Coolusername Quote
