Original post:

Looking at so many topics so far, this will be an epic contest in the tech contest history!:pir-huzzah1:

And I know there are already many Porsches under building now, still I want to add one more: A Porsche 944.

Here is my progress so far:

My plan is focus on the exterior look first. After finish that, will try to figure out if I can create a chassis with suspension or not. As to the color scheme, I prefer a pure dark azure version. However, due to lack of some azure parts, will end up a gulf scheme, like:

Hope you like it and happy building!

I love how you build a left side different from the right and then I guess you compare which is  better.  I owned  a 944 s2 which I raced was a  great car.

Yes, I'm not used to virtual building. Instead, I build mock ups like this one and iterate both sides in turn to get the better solution. Also, by doing this way, I can easily have save copies of previous solution.

It's cool to own a 944 in real life

Some update, the rear body, rear bumper and roof are done. The overall height of the car is a little bit taller than it should be, will lower it by 1 stud.

I believe you can do 3 colors in full with his current style. Full dark azure, white and orange!!!

You are right, and not this color vomit that we say nicely "rainbow colors"

TLG is generous about releasing new colors on beams and panels these days but still not so generous on the technic connector side. Strictly speaking, the full dark azure version is not available for now and that's why I chose the gulf version.

The color vomit means the built now is just WIP. I like using random colors during the WIP period since it can save the "formal color" parts for the final version later on. I don't have a very big part storage(less than 40K part number) , with some big guys assembled, even the quantity of black connectors are running low . At the same time, some colorful parts which currently I don't have a big thing using them are in high storage. It is handy to use them in the demo version. Also, the color vomit can show the shape better sometimes.

Working on the front suspension and chassis now and this is what I got so far:

1280x720.jpg

1280x720.jpg

With the 44309 tires, this setup is wider than 15 studs, but it is 15 studs wide with 30699 tires :pir_tong2:

Both the shock absorbers and the steering links are in asymmetry setup. The steering link is parallel with the wishbone arm which is the correct geometry I believe, but still the overall setup has a large backlash. It is caused by the ball joint connection and the use of 3 8 teeth gears. Since the car is not powered and the size limitation, I choose to live with that.

The major work of exterior and chassis is finished, now it looks like this:

1280x720.jpg

Checking with the target:

I will add the dark azure wheel cover eventually.

Maybe it looks better if I get rid of the orange parts in c pillar and above the fender.

As to the race number, I'm trying to represent it with parts instead of using any customized stickers, but it doesn't look so good, what do you think? Should I get rid of it completely?

Honestly you captured lines relatively good, but rare parts in particular color cause problem. To be sarcastic I really like clock in background  (if it only had Roman numbers)

I think its a hard car to capture, the 944 has "hips" and that rear wheel arch is just disappearing, and the tire should be fat and right at the lip of the guard. the Lego guards suit a 911 unfortunately  and your car is not sitting level, I think at this scale suspension is a luxury not a necessity

Yes, indeed. Tried to replace the orange parts with DBG and it looks a little bit better, I'll stick with that.:classic:

Maybe it sounds making no sense, I'm building the car referring to the blue prints of a non-race version 944:pir-laugh:  You can tell that by the signal lights and fog lights in the grill and the rear lights. I would like to build a pure dark azure version however the parts limit pushes me to a gulf color scene. So the result now is a "bastard" version.

The fender parts look different on the "civilian" version also the distance between fender edge and the wheel is higher.

Yes, this is another thing which troubles me. The rear suspension could be lifted a little bit to match the look of the non-race version and it is not a hard thing to do. The real trouble is the front suspension, I'm using the hard spring in the photo, and the ride height is acceptable but the steering force needed is large since the fiction is too much due to the spring pressure. If using to the softer spring, the suspension range is almost none which makes the suspension useless. So you probably right on this, it is not necessary to have a suspension at this scale. A fake L4 may be a good choice here...

I believe your front hood-line is too high. Makes it look like it has a fat front end.

You are perfect right! I made a mistake yesterday when designing the firewall area, the mount point of hood was raised by 1 stud up. Now it should look like this, I know there is an annoying step ahead of the windshield, but I decided to live with it...

1280x720.jpg

Also, I finished the dashboard area, sorry guys, no steering wheel turning with front wheel, in fact the steering wheel doesn't turn at all, lol

That looks much better. At the same time, I think extending the bodywork forward of the doors by one stud would make it look a lot better. Or try lifting the rear. Otherwise you're doing great! I will definitely copy your bodywork and build a chassis myself once you're done.

I think you are suggesting that the distance between front fender piece and A pillar can be stretched by 1 stud. By doing so will make the front look a bit longer. Based on the blueprint(sorry, the font of the number is a little bit too small to read....),  the wheel base and the distance between back of the front wheel and the front edge of roof is close to what I have now. I think one of the reason is the fender part have a much gentler arc than the real car which makes the distance looks shorter than it does.  I'll have a try anyway:thumbup:

Also, I don't quite understand your "lifting the rear", which part were you saying? The rear body work or rear axial or something other?

Finally, it is finished!

The doors, rear axle, dashboard are all rebuilt. The height of the rear axle was adjusted so that the car is not sitting rear end low anymore.

Here is it looks now:

1280x720.jpg

1280x720.jpg

1280x720.jpg

Of course, it has pop-up lights!

1280x720.jpg

It can have the dark azure wheel cover mounted, but with that, the width of front axle will exceed the 15 studs limitation by a few millimeters, so I will not include them in the entry topic. But I think I can show them here :pir-grin:

I will make instructions, so please stay tuned if you are interested in it.
