Bigdwazda Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 (edited) So over 4 years since this set was released, its clear I'm a little late to the First Order transporter (75103) modding party. This set had been firmly forgotten and relegated to my loft in pieces. I watched the newest film and what turns up but this ship in an epic (but weird) Force tug of war . Instead of being sad about Chewies demise, the only thing I could think was "I have that set" somewhere, and so it began! I took the bricks from the box, thankfully a lot of the work was already done. I built it up and thought "its a bit stumpy" but still cool. I had recently modded the 75257 falcon Here and my modding skills??!!! were itching for a new challenge. I reviewed a few pics here and decided that the extension mod shouldn't be too tricky. I decided to go it alone and used the picture below as the look to get. The issue I have is my Lego bits collection is somewhat small so I have to make do with what I have on hand at the time. What you see here is literally cobbled together with best fit parts (I'm sure I'm not alone with his issue), most of which come from a 75105 millennium falcon. Needless to say my version looks very similar to the mods on here. I think this is likely as its so easy to extend. I have made a few more changes that I haven't seen on other mods (perhaps there is a reason why!) So first off there is the obligatory stock vs modded shot. I extended mine by 6 studs at the front and 2 (4 if you count the engine extension) at the rear. I wanted to do a couple more at the front but didn't have the bits. As you can its longer and less studded, I wanted only a few on show so covered the rest. In a perfect would have liked to remove the large curved parts and use flat tiles with the 4 studs, however, I don't have these parts. Stock Mod and for fun the real thing Next I removed most of the studs from the top of the ship, while this isn't 100% accurate I do think it looks nice with the line going from the front to the back. I also recessed the dark diamond shape into the hull of the craft. I changed the light on the front for a more curved design. Next the back of the craft, perhaps the hardest bit to do with my limited parts. The top is fairly accurate but it quickly descended into best fit to cover. With that said it still looks much better than the Technic bars. I also extended the engines out and made them sit closer together. Internally i just copied the existing design and have room for 8 easily and perhaps 10 if i squash them in. To be honest I am not really concerned about the interior but the kids love the extra space. I think i have pretty much ended up with almost the exact same mods as all others but I thought I would share as this set is a really fun and easy set to mod. I know it’s old but take a look and perhaps make it the next mod you make. I almost like this thing more than my nearly finished UCS millennium falcon. Perhaps I like it because it based on a real vehicle used in WW2. The LCM3 (landing craft mechanised) Finally here is it with my collection of other stuff. It scales well against my (now finished) Falcon . Man that thing is big. Edited February 7, 2020 by Bigdwazda Quote
