The Island Chronicles Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 (edited) So I have my first haul of 2020 and that is: 60255 Stunt Team 60256 Racing Cars 60257 Service Station 60258 Tuning Workshop I actually plan my Lego hauls before I buy them and I see that these were not a waste of money. The designers of City have impressed me very well with this subtheme. Being a worker in the auto industry and someone who has studied it all his life, I was perturbed that the last subtheme dedicated to the auto industry only lasted for a year and it was gone. But this one in 2020 was way better. I even had some KFOLs who agreed with me while I was at the Lego store that these were some great sets. Though one of the boys was upset when he saw me with all four and wanted all four at the same time too. It really bothers me that some people are making a big deal from these sets as there were really no major flaws in them. But those same people will tell us to be quiet over the police sets. Such hypocrisy. That's not the point of this discussion though! The flaws were extremely small ones though. They were easy for me to fix as I had the right bricks to fix them. 60255 was perfect. No issues there. For 60256, I replaced that big hood giant scoop on the red car with a smaller red hood scoop so it would look more tasteful. I switched one of the gas pumps on 60257 to the other side so that it would be easier to allow two cars in there at a time. I also put more washing equipment on the other side. 60258 had the street signs removed as I plan to place it in a shopping center and not near a busy street. "Treads Tuning" has been replaced with the "Service" sticker from my Lego Xtra sticker pack as Tread Octane is not the owner of that building in my town. But those were pretty much it. To be frank, if the designers of City sets can keep surprising us with badass sets like these, they could make two police stations a year. Wait! Did I say that out loud? Goddamnit. Well, they technically did that this year. All the same, what do you think of sets 60255 to 60258? Let me know below. Edited January 8, 2020 by pooda Quote
The Island Chronicles Posted January 7, 2020 Author Posted January 7, 2020 (edited) Did I tell you that I also converted the small orange-cream used car trailer from 60258 into a juice window? Edited January 8, 2020 by pooda Quote

Vindicare Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 I love the Tuning Garage, it has a lot more pluses than it does minuses. The new dog, bike, that great little trailer, the cars are all great. Although I think they could’ve done without the small blue car & it’s sign/ramp. I realize it goes with the trailer, but they could’ve easily made that where the shop owner lives instead. The Stunt Team team doesn’t really interest me, but the ATV is neat. Racing Cars I like...the blue car more than the red. The Service Station is too incomplete of a building for me today actually buy it. But the cars are fantastic & new. Quote
The Island Chronicles Posted January 8, 2020 Author Posted January 8, 2020 (edited) @Vindicare That sounds fair enough. Yeah! I would've made it a truck similar to the pizza van or something. I didn't see much use for it as I already have a dealership in my City. So that's kinda why I turned it into an orange juice trailer and the Vita Rush guy from 60255 owns it. The motorcycle rider is part of a street rebel gang - which is what the majority of car owners that come with the tuning workshop are in my town. I just think he fits in very well there. In real life, crooks don't just wear stripy shirts. As for the service station, I can tolerate it. Though I was disappointed in the building, the Volkswagen van and the crossover ev made up for that. I love the blue race car better too. The guy in the blue car is my Lego OC. Edited January 8, 2020 by pooda Quote
koalayummies Posted January 10, 2020 Posted January 10, 2020 Just wish City would get consistent with vehicle window colors, some are transparent blue some are transparent brown and some sets have vehicles with both colors in one set. Need consistency. While trans clear is the best IMO leaving me with a pile of smoke/blue windows. Quote
The Island Chronicles Posted January 10, 2020 Author Posted January 10, 2020 (edited) @koalayummies Yeah! That's probably my only pet peeve. I like the brown windows. Like the ones they used on the pizza van and the race cars. Thise are nice. In my opinion, they should stick to those. Then again, I could say the same about the buildings as far as inconsistencies go regarding the windows. Maybe the City division was trying to take tasteful looks into consideration. That's prolly why. Edited January 10, 2020 by pooda Quote

That is a bit weird. I'm fine with any but I think the really blue tinted ones are the worst. Quote
TeriXeri Posted January 11, 2020 Posted January 11, 2020 (edited) I don't mind light-blue window colors on those Emergency Vehicles (and buildings) , and the use on the limegreen and darkblue cars (with lightblue headlights) still makes sense. Not saying that blue windows should be everywhere, I don't know how the surfer bus would look with black windows but I also like the blue windows there with the white and teal. Icecream truck where windows are trans-clear also makes sense. I still agree that 2 window colors in 1 set would be weird for things like alternate builds etc but it seems they've been doing that for a long time, especially in Police sets vs red/darkred villain car.
