Yevhen Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 (edited) Guys, help! Right now I can buy 42039 for $110. What do you think of the price? Is the set worth the money? It consists of 1200 parts and it's not too many, in my opinion. On the other hand, I can buy another 42069 for $100 as well (I already own one), but there are 2400 parts! P.S.42077 is a similar set just for $70, but I definitely dislike the rally car. Edited December 21, 2018 by Yevhen Quote
Erik Leppen Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 It depends on whether you buy sets for parts, or for something else (like the joy of building, or learning new tricks, etc.). If you buy for parts, then, instead of looking at the number of parts, look at the number of parts you actually want. 2300 parts is nice, but if most of it is parts you don't need, it has little added value (except the joy of building etc.). You could make a list of parts you want in both sets, and how much you think each part is worth to you, find the total "part value" per set and compare that to the set prices. The differnce between the "part value" and the price, is what you pay for the building etc. One thing to consider specifically for 42039 is the bright green color is cool, but it's also still unique among all Technic sets, so it may be hard to use the parts in MOCs. Dark azure (42077) is more widely available, and I assume you already have 42070 (seeing your avatar) so 42077 may actually help you getting a better range of parts in dark azure. If it's purely for parts, a dislike for the model shouldn't matter -- if it's for parts, look at the inventories. On a personal note, I really liked 42039. Quote

I have looked through the parts list, and no, I'm not impressed. I considered buying 42039 two years ago but something stopped me. Edited December 21, 2018 by Yevhen Quote
1gor Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 IMHO 42069 is much better choice, and if you need something like 42039, there will be 42077 cheaper and cheaper Quote
Rudivdk Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 (edited) Like @Erik Leppen said, it's up to personal taste. If you like exterior parts (panels etc), 42077 has the most commonly available colors ( white and dark azure). If you like technical parts, 42069 has the largest range of offroad oriented parts and a total of 6 springs, but no gearbox elements. 42039 has a somewhat smaller selection of parts, but usefull suspension parts aimed at racer type vehicles and a gearbox. And apart from the unique green, it also has quite some white panels etc. I wouldn't know which one to pick to be honest... You could also save the money now and wait for 2019 1H to be available if the new lineup has anything you like... Edit: after reconsidering, I think I would also advise 42069. 4 small turntables, small linear actuator, those springs in two types, large number of 11l axles, all new connector types, lots of black and (dark) grey elements etc is actually much more versatile as a parts pack compared to 43039 and 42077 both. Yevhen Posted December 21, 2018 Author Posted December 21, 2018 (edited) Thank you guys. I won't buy 42039. It has cool design, but after reassembling I'll get just a bunch of not necessary parts. Not worth it. Edited December 21, 2018 by Yevhen Quote
JonathanM Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 One thing in 42039's favour is there are a LOT of C models to build from it, and a very nice B model as well. But agreed, for parts, the green isn't that useful. Given you already have 42069, I'd go for a 42077 if what you're after is parts for building other cars. My guess is there will be a large number of C models from that set as well - there's already quite a few. Also, with 42077 and 42070 my guess is you can probably build 42039 from parts in dark azure instead of green (just the 2L crossblock missing I think). Quote
