42083 Bugatti Chiron - MODs and Improvements

So in between doing other things I finally got around to building the pimped up version plus adding a few of my own mods.

Experimented by changing the hood to the 17/18 panels and moving the hinges closer to the middle. This allowed the outside 5/6 panels to be changed to the larger 17/18 ones as well. Filled the remaining gaps the best I could. It's the best thing I could come up with given the colour limitations and the parts I had on hand... but I feel like it closes everything in a lot better.

Also reworked the door hinges to add multiple connection points, whilst also getting rid of that stupid LBG bush. 

I think I've had enough of this model for now and its at the point where I'm happy with it

Hi Guys, 

 

I just finished building this awesome car with my 10-year old son. Off course he would like to play with it so we soon realized we missed the hand of god steering. After googling around on the internet for solutions i found this thread with some amazing mods, great! However....i found the link to all the bricks needed to realize all the mods, but i can't seem to find a link to the needed parts for specific mods. Did i miss something, or is this just not there?

I would like to mod the car with the following mods:

- hand of god steering in the dash

- hand of god changing gears from the dash

- hand of god easy moving the spoiler

- the mod for changing the door hings and closing of the doors.

The other mods look great, but when buying all the parts...it gets a bit very expensive.

I'm just looking for the extra parts of the mods above, but i can't find which parts i need to realize them. Is there anyone who could help me with that?

Meukie, I think you should check out this MOD : https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-16181/jb70/42083-pimp-up-my-bugatti/#details : it is the one which we refer as "pimped up version" of the Chiron.

It includes all that you mention and more, and only needs a moderate number of parts (276 precisely).

Hi, thanks a lot for your reply. That’s the big mod i found indeed…looks awesome, but perhaps i just don’t get it right, These parts cost more than €500,00, don’t they?
 

Or should I use the compare module which says the 276 parts? Any idea what the costs of these 276 parts to make all the mods from the updated booklet (great work btw!) are in total?

Hey @Meukie,

You have to click on compare and there you can export the parts from the left -> for me it was showing around 55 euro right now, but you can always play with the stores (some may have a bigger min. buy, so by adding a few parts you can order all parts from one store).

Exactlly, if you have the original set, then you only need the 276 "unique" parts of the MOD.

I have made a quick try on BrickLink: you should be able to get them for 25-30€ + shipping fees.

Ah great! Thanks a lot. I’ll give that bricklink a try…is there a way to upload the csv or something to import the parts i need?

 

UPDATE: got it and ordered! €40 incl shipping…looking forward to modding! Thanx a lot peeps!

I did all the changes while I built the pimped up version. Since the chassis is different and I changed other things as I went along I couldn’t possibly tell you every change from the stock version. 
But if you wanted to improve your model I’d encourage you to just have a go yourself and see what you come up with.

Hi fox, hope you doing well.

It's been a year I built my Chiron by following the Pimp up my Bugatti instructions (big thanks to @jb70)

However I have an issue now with the gearbox in drive mode.

The 4th gear pass smootlhy but the next 4: impossible. Pedal shifter seems to be not strong enough or something happen inside the gearbox.

To pass the 4th last gear, I hade to turn manually the gear wheel (normally operated by the pedal shifter) to pass on the 5th gear. After that, I can re use again pedal shifter.

The issue seems to be around the gear block.

 

I don't know if I have to disassemble everything or not (I hope nop).

I installed the servor motor in 42083.  When the wheel is not touching the ground, the steering is completely smooth. But when the wheel touches the ground, steering is impossible. there is crack sound when i press left or right turn. Can anyone help me fix this?

After years I have rebuild my Bugatti and it was a lot of fun doing it again!

While building, I revised my building instructions, including all stickers and step highlighting.

And I found several details how to pimp it up again.

So these are my latest improvements to Pimp up my Bugatti v1.6:

• revised building instructions with part highlighting and continuous step numbers and some improvements for ease of use
• added stickers to building instructions
• precise position of rear axle brake calipers (page 10, step 21 / page 13, step 31)
• better bearing of axle in front of W12 engine (page 53, step 102)
• reinforce HOG steering (page 61, step 108-113 / page 86, step 158 / page 93, step 169-177 / page 114, step 200-205 / page 300, step 492-506)
• reinforce DNR gearbox (page 66, step 120-128 / page 93, step 169-175 / page 127, step 225)
• reinforce Paddle Shifter (page 106, step 186-189 / page 110, step 195-196)
• reinforce HOG shifter (page 113, step 198 / page 124, step 217)
• reinforce HOG spoiler (page 206, steo 333 / page 128, step 351)
• reinforce door hinges (page 154, step 262 / page 163, step 277)

There's been a part that's been bugging me. It's in book 1, page 114, in  the sub model between steps 41 and 42.
On step 3 of this sub model, there's a brown 3L axle with stop being inserted. I haven't built this irl, but looking at this digitally I was wondering... how would you ever get it back out once it's all the way in?
For now I am more tempted to replace it with a normal 4L axle and a 1/2 bush (if that works in the entire build).

You can probably wiggle it a little bit, then slip a knife blade under the end of the axle stop and lever it out. You can also (in other similar situationd) use the tip of a knife to go through the grooves in an axle bush or other part and move an axle like that too.

And there was me about to reluctanntly get my Pimped Chiron dismantled and packed away. Now I'm happy to get it taken apart so I can upgrade it to this new version 😃.

I had just recently gathered the additional parts from bricklink to build the v1.5 version!  Is there a change to the additional parts list that I can compare against to see if I need anything more from what I have gathered previously?

This upgrade came just in time for me. My Bugatti has been sleeping in its box for quite some time and I am planning to build it, soon. So, many thanks for this, @jb70!

i have replaced it by a 4L axle with stop.
In the first days there was still an old v1.5 of Book 1 online. Please update your download to v1.6! You can read the release number on the title page.

Oh, you're right, I hadn't noticed book 1 still being v1.5.
Just downloaded it again, only to notice book 1 still being v1.5 actually.
