When I was looking for a Sail Barge to buy I had a really hard time deciding which one I wanted. I preferred the look of the 6210 set but I like the mini figures more in the 75020 set, but I absolutely hate the front end of it. So I ended up buying the 75020 set with the intent on making it look like the 6210. At first it was just going to be replacing the front section with bow pieces used in 6210 but when i came to covering the top of it I had to redo the entire deck because the piece covering the top doesn't come dark tan. So with that I replaced all the old dark tan pieces with tan. It allowed me to lengthen the over all deck section by 8 studs and widen it by two studs.. I also filled in a few gaps around the sail barge such as between the deck plate and drop down panels.. I figured why stop there. I decided to move a few pieces around inside on the panels to make them bulge out more making it wider at the top and not so skinny. To fill in those gaps I added some 1x6 and 1x8 plates in tan to the panels on each door so when they are closed it looks like part of the flooring. I replaced those horrible plastic sails with one's from 6210 and moved the back sail back farther to give it more clearance from the first sail. I created a new railing system along the deck plate, replaced the gray posts where the window open up to a brown color and finished off the bottom with some 2x4 brown tiles to hide the hinges on the bottom. And finally I added a few detail tiles to the wing parts to make it look similar to the real sail barge. The interior remains completely untouched as I feel like this is the better interior of the two sets. So now I feel like i have the perfect Sail Barge without having two in my collection. Overall it ended up costing me an extra $12 to make this and never even opened up bag 3 from the 75020 set.

The one thing I would like to do in the future is start adding tiles to the side cover up all the studs and give it a smoother look.

Added tan bricks to widen the top part of barge

I just moved the black piece up to make it stop farther out

Nice one. The older sails and bow section looks so much better. I also like it a bit wider along the top as the new set is way too narrow. I would consider using the deck gun from the older set, too as that one is a little better looking than this one.

Yeah I plan on it, I'm in the process of bricklinking the parts for it. I do agree it looks so much better.

Nice MOD! Funnily enough I'm building 6210 right now. Its such a great set, particularly for its age. In this case I don't think covering the sides with tiles will improve the look, IMO the smooth to stud ratio is just fine.

Really nice! I have the new version and every time I look at the movie and look over on my set I can't help but be a little pissed off about the front-section... ;)

even though the newer one is more accurate in a smaller scale, like the nose and the slendernes. This one looks so much better, I do the like the older nose, as it is smoother and this one holds a more space for minifigs.

Hello,

Amazing job!  I wish Lego had gone with ur Sail Barge......   I know you went all custom on this.  I know you did it all heart, mind, and soul.....  so please don't take offense to this.....  would you by chance be willing to share your "blueprints"??????   I really admire ur talent and understand ur feelings on my request,  whether you choose to share or not.

Thank you at the very least for sharing your pictures..... Really tremendous job.

Cheers

Hi, don't put your email on EB in public. You'll likely get spam from spammers who visit the site (not for LEGO sadly)

That's a perfect match! I never had the old one and was so unhappy with the new one that I sold it again (keeping the minifigs of course). The only minor nitpick I have is the tan for the deck. It looks far to bright for my liking, but what can you do if the pieces/colors are not available.

It looks great, but isn't it basically a 6210 set now?  I have both and was just going to move Minifigs from new to the old.

The only parts from 6210 are the 7 front bow pieces and the sails. The upper deck is also wider. It's not even close to 6210.
