callonli Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 (edited) Hi I'm a high school student in Toronto, and I'm a new member to eurobricks. I got my first lego when I was 5, and recently I've started to collect UCS sets. I've now owned 10212,10227,10240,75059,76023. I was considering to buy UCS Slave I in the next double VIP points promotion, does anyone know when it will come? And will this set be retired by then? Now get back to the topic, this is my second brick link project. My first one is the bat pod, and its a small set compared to those crazy UCS sets. And now I'm starting to find the next project I'm going to do.After a couple days of research, I think 10018 suits all my requirements.First of all, it is a set with 1890 pieces, which was an easy one compared to other huge UCS sets. Also, I'm surprised to find out that besides 30562 black*4, all of the other parts are quite common and their prices are reasonable. And I've decided to use spray print for plastic to turn a dark bluish grey one (other suggestions of another colour?) into a black one. Also I've noticed that blue bricks and yellow bricks can't be seen from the outside, does that mean I can replace them with any other cheaper colours? The last but not least, in my own opinion, this set is not likely to be re-released again. I've heard rumours about a new UCS Death Star and the falcon, so I've decided to work on sets that were not likely to be re-released in the future. Tell me about ur suggestions on how to brick link this project please! Or other options that is suitable for me to bricklink, thanks for ur time. jamie75 Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 (edited) First welcome to Eurobricks! Now to your questions. I have "Bricklinked" several MOCs, Cafe' Corner, and Market Street. It was lot of fun and if you do it right and take your time can save you alot of money. My suggestions are: DON'T paint your Lego! But, I am a "purist". Those panels can't be seen from front and really can't be seen from the sides, they are on the bottom of the model. The shoulder cover them, to a point. Use 2577 or 48092 instead. Yes, blue and some yellow can not be seen, but, I think you use yellow around the eyes. Can't remember 100%. Another suggestion would be to use Maskatrons instructions for this: http://www.brickshel...ery.cgi?f=67875 . I have 10018 but, never really liked the look of it so I made the one I posted above. Hope this helps and good luck, Jamie Edited March 12, 2016 by jamie75 Quote

Hope this helps and good luck, Jamie Thanks for ur time on answering my question.I found out that 30562 can be replaced by 48092*6 but there weren't a lot of black 48092 on brick link right now, so I've decided to use other colours of 30562 instead. So now my question is which colour is better, trans black or dark bluish grey? Also, I've seen the project u've posted, it looks fantastic and maybe I will consider to build one in the future but right now I have to stick on the original one because I've already started for 2 weeks. I'm also interested in how much did it cost u to bricklink the cafe corner and the market street? I've bought pet shop& and Parisian restaurant during this promotion, but haven't bought the cinema yet. So i was wondering when will the cinema to be retired? Thanks again for your patience on answering my quesions! Quote

Thanks again for your patience on answering my quesions! No problem! If your going to stick to 30562 I would say Dark Bluish Gray, since there are bricks in the middle of them to help support the model. If you use a trans color, you may be able to see those bricks. As for Market Street and Cafe' Corner, I honestly don't remember how much they were. I did it years ago. Jamie Quote

Cjd223 Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 I bricklinked this set last year, it was quite simple. Now I did have about 1200 pieces in my collection but they were all just small bricks and plates, probably worth like 5 cents per piece. The rest of the model costed me about $120 if I remember correctly, so bricklinking this set is likely to stay around 10 cents per piece, making it an awesome set in terms of price per piece to make, and a good starting point for anyone who has never bricklinked any large sets. Cjd223 Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Did u buy the original black 30562? I had one of them from an Alpha Team set if I remember correctly, and I found one on bricklink but just used black 4 x 4 macaroni pieces for the others Quote
