Trentstoys Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 HELLO!!!! I recently bought the jedi interceptor, but I was disappointed by how much the astromech droid sticks out, so I made a mod to fix it. This is the problem, and to fix it, you'll need two 1x2 bricks, two 2x3 plates, and one 2x6 plate. First step, take off the astromech droid wing. You'll want to take off the 2x2 grey round plate thing and the 4x4 corner plate and the grey thing that holds the droid. then you'll want to get the two 1x2 bricks, two 2x3 plates, and one 2x6 plate. You'll want to put the two 1x2 bricks onto edges of the 2x6 plate. You'll want to put the 2x3 plates onto the 1x2 bricks, and you'll want to take the 1x2 grille plate from the set and put them onto the center of the 2x6 plate. then put the 2x2 grey plate thing onto the bottom of the 2x6 plate then you'll want to put the thing where the picture shows You'll want to place the 2x2 grey piece and the 4x4 grey plate where the picture shows and now the droid sits much lower than it did before. Junior Shark Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Yes, you lowered the droid. But it still looks just as ridiculous, IMO. With this method you need to add bulk to the rest of the wings to even it out. I would recommend raising the droid up by one plate then bulking up the wings. Alternatively, you could just forego the astromech body and just put the head on the wing. The Lego astromech is too big and the Lego Interceptor is too small. Together they make an unholy mix. The best MOCs of the interceptor forego the astromech body: Quote
JPN366 Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Seems like the easiest thing to do is copy the design of the previous version, the yellow Anakin interceptor. Quote
Kristof Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 ^ Astromech being to big or interceptor being to small - these are no the issues. Actually, both items are very well scaled. The problem is that this method of housing the astromech is just weird and hasn't been fully thought through by movie designers. Actually from what I read, it seems they even omitted the astromech' body in some scenes, at least it apears so from screenshots showing the underside where there is no bulky box housing on the Anakins interceptor. Some other images show a little bit of droid body on Obi-Wans but still smaller than it would have to be to accomodate whole droid. Such tricks must be nightmare for lego designers. And not just lego. So far I havent found a model that would have a satisfactory construction for this. I don't think there is any perfect solution here and shifting the structure upwards or downwards only shifts the problem, not that it would solve it. Quote
Junior Shark Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 @krisandkris12: Yep, that's really the heart of the issue here. Look at this picture: http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/4/45/Darth_Vader's_green_Eta-2.png/revision/latest?cb=20130213234040. I mean, where on earth is the lower half of R2's body?!? Is there some sort of mini TARDIS in the Jedi Interceptor's wing? While making RotS, no one stopped to say, "Hey, we've got a bit of a problem here...."?!? Quote

I didn't want to copy that one because 1) I didn't have the necessary pieces and 2) I felt that it was too different from the design if the other wing Quote
Ellisss_ Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Great attempt, however the model is now too bulky as said by Junior Shark... I don't really think there is a way however to make it non bulky. It does look better though well done. Just get rid of the lower body, and attach the head! Quote
