I am trying to get the sacel right for these things

I love American style trucks and trains.

I am using 1 foot = 2 plates scale.

This works out to have about a 7 wide truck and its important to me to have 2 mini figs fit in the cab so I have to try to get a 6 wide windsheild to look good. I had another thread with an octan truck and the nose was too stubby.

Here is a render of a second attempt at 7 wide. The containers on the trailer are 6 wide because actual containers are slightly narrower than box trailers here in the states.

The front of the tuck is 6 wide and the sleeper is 7 wide. future trailers will be 7 wide as well.

The longer container is 42 studs long to be about right for a 53 foot container and the shorter one is 32 studs long that simulates a 40 foot container.

I used a container design that was published in the 14th issue of Railbricks Magazine. I believe that the designer was Lolasso.

Great job, these look fantastic.

They're begging for one detail though, some air intakes like these right in front of the windshield.

Like this?

Here are some more variations I put together this evening.

This last one shows more detail of the containers and the backs of the trucks. The trailer shown is for the 40' containers and is 33 studs long.

Spot on.

These are the best Lego semis I've seen, I really want to build one..

Though, I think, if you're going specifically for American semis the cabs should be four wide. Every conventional I've seen has a narrow cab, about as wide as the hood, which then widens at the sleeper. But that wouldn't look as good.

Thanks man! Like I said in the original post I really wanted to have 2 minifigs in the cab so 4 wide was out. plus 4 wide looks too skinny to me.

Here is a late 80's style one I just whipped up:

If you would like the LDD file, let me know. I can upload it and add a link.

Wow, even better with those trailers.

Brick On 'cameronmiller1988' !

Thank you for your kind words!

Nice colors on this last one. Very classic American truck, I've always liked those massive rolling boxes.

And yeah, please. It'll make building them a little easier than going from photos.

Here is a Zip of all the LDD files

Im not sure how stable they will be as real models. I used some tricks to get the real wheels attached but since I am getting back into LEGO after about 15 years out of the game, I havent used many of the new pieces. I included another LDD from a different thread that used a different method to attach the rear wheels but I didnt think it was very strong overall.

I love the container latches you've made :). Interior space is a serious drawback of 4-wide cabs... although, even 6 wide isn't quite enough if you want to include details. Ah well! :).

Thank you! I used a design I found in the 14th issue of RailBricks Magazine. It was made by a Flickr User called Lolasso.

love these. i did a similar build when i recreated my old RV which was based on a ford F650. my scale was a bit larger than yours, but here's a pic of it for a few ideas you could use...

things i came up with that i think would work well on your trucks is...

- the rear view mirrors, i wanted to incorporate a blind spot mirror and was a bit tired of the conventional truck mirror based on the hinged plates. i used some clip plates and a 3m bar to mount a tall mirror and small blind spot mirror. i like how you can put the in different positions which most trucks do, and i liked the fact that the bar makes it look like the big mirror mounts that trucks have.

- my cab was 6 wide and the box was 8 wide, but you may notice i made the effort to make a 7 wide bumper and i think it really works well and i think a 7 wide bumper would look great on those trucks too.

- you can't see it in this picture, but like you i used a technics thingy on the front axles to exaggerate the front hub, but unlike yours, i used rear wheels with axle holes instead of round holes. those rims have more of a recess which gives the front and rears a more distinct look and makes the rears look more like duallies.

That looks great! I will see what I can do to get a 7 wide bumper on the modern looking trucks. I know that the older 80's style one has a slightly narrower bumper.

I really like your mirrors too! Thanks for the helpful suggestions!

cool, yeah the bumpers might not be that great on yours, for mine, i hated having the different tires so i used the wider rims/tires in front and the 7 wide bumper was a good way to de-emphasize that fact.

the mirrors would look pretty good though, for sure.

Great looking RV!

I'm also inspired by the mirrors :). They might just find their way onto my truck!

I'll also look at the bumper but I think they won't work for me. The hood (bonnet?) on my truck can open, and the wider bumper sits deeper towards the front wheel, so I think it will just bump into the wheel when opening...

And of course, I'll want to change my rear wheels to 7-wide ;).

Did up a couple more trailer combos. I love trucks and all the associated equipment so I can see my city being very truck centric when I have space for my layout.

First up is a Heavy Haul Low Boy Trailer. I made it to be 8 wide because these trucks usually haul oversized loads here in the US.

Next is a couple of local freight trailers in a train similar to the FedEx and UPS trucks used for local delivery.

This last one is a scene of some container trucks and some box trucks next to my 8 Wide intermodal train.
