Andy D Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I find I need to do a project in NXT. It has been several years since I did anything in NXT, because I have been involved with modular buildings and the like, so I have a new learning curve with NXT. Right now I am trying to find new iOS apps... I have seen one called iNXTG for programming the NXT from the iPad and I was wandering if anyone here has used it and what are your opinions of it. Also I am looking for an iOS app to control NXT 2.0 from my iPad. I know this is built into EV3, but I have NXT 2.0 and do not really want to buy EV3, so any help on iOS app for NXT 2.0 will be much appreciated. Since I am restarting NXT, I hope I can get some help from the experts here. Thanks, Andy D Quote
DrJB Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I asked a similar question a while back, and the situation is that, you cannot control the NXT directly with an iOS device. You have to thank Apple for this 'inconvenience'. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=106308 Quote
dr_spock Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 You can get your iPad to communicate directly to the NXT if you jailbreak it. The full version of iNXTG works that way. The lite version of iNXTG requires a PC in the middle. If you're into programming microcontrollers, you could make something small with a bluetooth and wifi module running a webserver to act as a go between the NXT and iPad. I think it is easier to use an Android device. There are many of them and they are not too expensive for models that are a generation or two old (which still work fine for remote control and tinkering.) Quote
Andy D Posted July 26, 2015 Author Posted July 26, 2015 (edited) I just checked the App Store and I could only find NXT remote apps by one guy... RoboRemote, he has an app called Supercars which looks like it is used for controlling motorized vehicles. He also promises a server free solution... Have you seen this yet? In my desire to program the NXT I had to find a way... The old NXT-G 2.0 software will not run on my Mac running 10.8.5. I found an update from LEGO which worked but it changed my Flash version to an older, non-supported version of Flash. NXT-G ran just fine, but anything else that requires Flash, not so much. I re-updated my Flash and it broke NXT-G. With a little more searching I found that the EV3 software would program my NXT and run on my computer. Things are coming together, but I have a lot (a real lot) to re-learning about NXT. Guess I'll get my old NXT books out and make lots of use of Google, and hopefully find some help here. No, I don't think jailbreak is a good option for me. Not into programming micro controllers. Maybe the old Android device is a good idea... Any recommendations? syclone Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Actually on an android I'm using NXT Remote Control for a simple control and Robo Literate for some really simple and direct programming Quote
