efferman Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Barry Bosman has made some Pictures on the Model show Europe with many gorgeous models, but one has hit me like a sledgehammer _MG_1475 by Barman76, on Flickr does anyone knows if they are functional? Quote
Kiwi_Builder Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 (edited) I do believe that those cylinders are functional, cool eh Edited March 26, 2015 by Kiwi_Builder Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Hi Efferman, They are made by JaapTechnic . Quote
JaapTechnic Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Uhm yes... They are functional They work great actually It's just a piece of plastic rod which I drilled out on a lathe and after that I made all the fittings so the main part works together with the remaining parts from original cilinders. Sorry for the sledgehammer Efferman, did it hurt? Quote

rocklego Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 WOW!! That long custom pneumatic cylinders are truly great. From the pictures looks like that it is more longer than Lego v2 version of pneumatic cylinders we saw in the Mercedes Arocs truck. I guess it has 20 studs in length without extending . Quote
JaapTechnic Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 (edited) no, the sledgehammer was virual. The drilled surface is smooth enough for the gaskets? Yes, indeed the inner surface isn't easy to make smooth. But with some trial and error, using different drills and some patience i managed to make the inside just as smooth as the outside. The biggest problem is heat and the waste the drill produces inside the cilinder, (I don't know the exact English word for it ) And you need a long drill... I guess it has 20 studs in length without extending . You are almost right 22studs up to 40 extended Edited March 26, 2015 by jaaptechnic Quote
nerdsforprez Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 I hear alot of talk about elongated cylinders or actuators. As cool as they all are, I never seem to hear brickmachine shop in any of the discussions. They are out of California USA and have excellent parts for heavy duty use. I am sure many have heard of this store, I just never see their name in any discussion about elongated actuators or pneumatics. But they should be, they have some cool actuators, pricey, but very large and powerful: http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=Eezo Quote

JaapTechnic Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 (edited) I see from your site that the turnable is not for sale. Is that the same for the pneumatic cylinders? Not for sale? Yup, You are right. They are not for sale. There is one simple reason for that: Producing those cylinders costs time, and time is rare when I follow my study mechanical engineering. Maybe something for the future. But let we all hope Lego will produce such a big cylinder any time soon (I don't think so ) Edited March 26, 2015 by jaaptechnic Quote
JayDee96 Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Europeans seem to just be a whole other breed of lego builders. There are some fantastic models in that Flickr folder. Quote
JaapTechnic Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 (edited) Sure, there where some great models this year on the show. Look at this combo It's just perfect with the crane from Dirk Klijn and the Nooteboom trailer in collaboration with LiftingBricks. Sneak preview of the upcoming new models by JaapTechnic, on Flickr Anyway, back to the actuators. I hear alot of talk about elongated cylinders or actuators. As cool as they all are, I never seem to hear brickmachine shop in any of the discussions. They are out of California USA and have excellent parts for heavy duty use. Dirk Klijn did it on his Sarens crane, and i can say, his actuator is very strong! For my Volvo A25D dumper it was impossible to build an actuator out of official lego bricks because of the cylinder which moves in multiple angles and the space where the cylinder is mounted to the chassis is very tiny. Boxerlego Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Those cylinders look awesome. My hats off to Jaaptechnic for doing such a outstanding work. Quote
chubays Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Jaaptechnic, where I can find detal photos of Dirk Klijn did it on his Sarens crane acrtuators? Quote
