Just got my calendar today! Yes, a little late, but I did that last year, but by buying two as they seemed to be cheaper during the 24 day period.

At least I had a little bit of fun by opening nine doors at once, pretty 'wizard' if I may say so myself :)

I forgot to open today's, so I've got something to do when I get home!

I'm a tad disappointed the Snowtrooper is the old-style, while the Hoth pilot is the newer one... tho it's just another snowtrooper to add to the ones I already have. Guess I'll have to get a snowspeeder and an AT-AT at some point!

Hmm, I hadn't considered cost. I thought the Friends calendars were thematically limited--here's two Friends sharing a merry Christmas with a couple of animals. The City calendars always seem based around a story (here's a family opening presents, or some burglars who get captured) along with a play feature. Star Wars is always based on a film (or this year, the CW), so there's no story so much as a generalized collection that usually lumps characters, weapons, and accessories together.

Weirdly, I think Friends may have the highest piece count this year even though it has some of the cheesier builds.

I got the City and Star Wars calendars this year, and my only complaint (and it is so minor but mindboggling at the same time) is that the calendar layouts on both are EXACTLY the same.

Each day on the Star Wars calendar is in the exact same place on the box as the day on the City calendar. So where you open the Day 10 flap on the Star Wars calendar, you go to the exact same location on the City calendar to open Day 10. I don't know if it's like this on the Friends calendar though.

They could have been different layouts, just to mix things up.

And yeah with a Day-1 Super Battle Droid, you can only go up from there. It took to Day 10 on the CIty calendar to get the non-Star-Wars-theme equivalent - a catapult.

I have a mix of Star Wars, City, and Friends calendars from different years, and they all have the numbers / dates in the same places each year, despite those numbers being in no particular order and the different calendars bearing different printing. Presumably LEGO's designers use a shared packaging template for all Advent Calendars from all themes each year, and it includes numbers assigned to all the little compartments, so they all remain in the same places, even though everything else changes including even the looks of the numbers (the typography).
