RoxYourBlox Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 (edited) “Pentagon” flickr Corner view: Side view: Interior: Entrance: This project was designed first in Lego Digital Designer, then the pieces were ordered through Pick-A-Brick and Bricks & Pieces at lego.com as well as bricklink.com via LDD Manager. Many thanks to the builders who assisted during the early stages of assembly: Mom & Dad Grant & Miles Paul & Olivia Yuri, Claire, & Emily Raghav David, Julie, Lily, & Andrew And of course to my wife Ann and daughter Kim for their love, support, and help throughout. See you at Brickworld Chicago 2014! Edited June 23, 2014 by RoxYourBlox Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 (edited) This is real?! It took me a second glance. It's amazing! You did a fantastic job designing and building Edited April 22, 2014 by LEGO Guy Bri Quote
Wodanis Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Wow fantastic to see in the brick, RoxYourBlox! I'd been waiting to see if you would build it. How many parts did you end up using? Love your creations. Quote
RoxYourBlox Posted April 22, 2014 Author Posted April 22, 2014 Wow fantastic to see in the brick, RoxYourBlox! I'd been waiting to see if you would build it. How many parts did you end up using? Love your creations. Thank you! 5,220 per side or 26,100 total. It cost a pretty penny!!! Also - while the Pentagon lacks an interior, it does have stairs; and while the Laundromat lacks stairs, it has an interior. I might fill the empty space with a mix of MOC vignettes and Ultra Agents stuff this summer. Quote
just2good Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Wow, this is absolutely beautiful. You nailed the pentagon shape perfectly, which is a hard task in itself, but then you went as far to make an interior relevant to the actual land mark. I would love to get my hands on this as a set, despite the incredible peace count. Mind putting it on Cuusoo? Quote
lightningtiger Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Now that's call raising the bar......AWESOME creation 'RoxYourBlox'.......totally Brick On ! Quote
glendo Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 im stunned at the ability to use the angles to work.... simply stunned. It's beautiful Quote
sdrnet Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Work at nothing short of awesome! ... like the rest of your modular buildings. I always love the combination of colors and techniques used. Congratulations indeed, I will follow with great interest. Quote
Steph 104th Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Its a menacing piece, right up their with the Sidney Opera House and Taj-Mahul sets! Quote
SalvoBrick Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Considering the odd angles... this is awesome! Quote
eurotrash Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 It's huge! What an impressive building. Are you bringing it to Chicago? Quote
Chills Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Fantastic build; it really captures the essence of the Pentagon. I like the historic figures on the stairs. Can't wait to see it in Chicago! Quote
stevkir Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 (edited) RoxYourBlox, Salt Lake City is doing there first official LEGO convention this year on May 2nd and 3rd and I would love to see your MOC's displayed if you are interested. Your ability for detail and figuring out how to accomplish your designs are easily in the top 1%. I have been watching your stuff for the past 2 years and love everything you make as they are all extremely well made. Here is a link to information about the convention. http://www.brickslopes.com If this gets even 30-40% of the attendance that our recent Comic Con had last week it will be highly packed and well attended convention. That comic con had over 100,000 attendees. Edited April 22, 2014 by stevkir Quote
RoxYourBlox Posted April 22, 2014 Author Posted April 22, 2014 (edited) I have updated the first post with acknowledgements. Since this was such a large project and lots of money was spent, I didn't want to hoard all the fun... So my wife & I threw a Lego party for my daughter and some her Legophilic friends! I mirrored my laptop onto a large screen TV and ad-libbed instructions by hiding groups and layers of the virtual building with the hide tool in LDD. We set up 5 workstations or 1 station per side. im stunned at the ability to use the angles to work.... simply stunned. It's beautiful Thanks! I applied what I learned when making my Castlometry sculpture Air Isle and added the technique shown below to fill in the gaps in each base (not visible in the above photo) with 2x3 (or 3x6) wedge plates: It's huge! What an impressive building. Are you bringing it to Chicago? Yes, I'll bring as much as our vehicles can fit while prioritizing new creations. Fantastic build; it really captures the essence of the Pentagon. I like the historic figures on the stairs. Can't wait to see it in Chicago! Thanks, stop by and say hello! Unfortunately, I'll be presenting at a medical research conference that weekend (my day job). :( Wow, this is absolutely beautiful. I would love to get my hands on this as a set, despite the incredible peace count. Mind putting it on Cuusoo? Thanks! I'll be doing more work to flesh out an interior later. Hopefully it can be something that looks nice but doesn't require more ordering. I'm not sure it would pass initial review at Cuusoo, though, but wouldn't it be funny if it did? BTW, say hello to LegoGAF for me if you're there (I read but am not registered). Edited April 22, 2014 by RoxYourBlox Quote
L@go Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Like I said on Flickr: I've loved this from the day you posted WIP shots of the digital design, and I'm so glad you actually ended up building it eventually. I can understand that it's taken a chunk out of the LEGO budget though :) But it is absolutely stunning - and getting the angles right and building it in such an aesthetically pleasing colour combination is no mean feat. I'm in awe, again, and really need to have a long hard look at those airline fares to Chicago... Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 I might fill the empty space with a mix of MOC vignettes and Ultra Agents stuff this summer. This sounds great for an already awesome work! ;-) Quote
jluck Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Thank you for the compliment! Congrats on being an all around incredible person Quote
Legogal Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Wow! The most famous five sided building many of us know, and you nailed it! Way to go! The angles look perfect, and your figs appear to be right at home! Quote
